Not much progress on the car, Josh has just been driving it daily to school. We need to put a new valve cover gasket on as there's a good oil leak.

Started working on his Christmas present....View attachment 1565246

So..... what're those? I know what they look like...

Our version of heavy duty rear LCA's.

Late year small LCA's cut in half with the thick DOM added on the outside and 1" solid stock in the inside. Basically bulletproof.

Ah. That's what I thought but the picture makes them look different lengths...

Alright, another small but darn-cool looking project was just finished today. It was a blast to get away from the stress of school and just life in general to go out and work on something that is more than just a car. After looking at pink dots and a black circle marks stenciling where the snorkel would go thanks to @2fpower and @StucknKS. With a few minor adjustments the snorkel was drilled, primed (to keep from rusting), and installed. Been waiting to see this for a long time.

Oh, and the sliders are off being re-grinded, sandblasted, and painted better than being rattle-canned...that is why they are missing from the picture

Pics or it didn't happen.

Got the sliders painted along with lots of other little parts

Josh should have some pictures to post up, but here is the valve cover before installation.

So, as some of you may now Yoda has had an oil leak problem. It’s not entirely obvious; but where I’ve been parking a large oil stain has appeared under the car. Yipee. So...being the smart idiot that @2fpower is he suggested to not only switch out the head gasket (it was quite obvious the leak was coming from there) but that we should paint the head gasket as well. After a TON of pursuading (not much at all) we decided to powder coat and switch the head gasket. These are some before and after photos of this new piece that is being added to my ultimate dream car: Yoda.

I think you meant valve cover.

Yes, this engine had not had the pleasure of a new head gasket. Valve cover gasket was the issue.. and the spark plug tube seals

Got the UTE doing some work

Did you use a piece of rectangular tubing with the end cut off for the slider brackets?

Yes, for his we used 2x3 1/4 wall rectangle, then capped the ends. For my rig, Boost and for my friends rig, we used 2x4 1/4 wall and adjusted the ends to fit closer to the body. Here is a good pic of the UTE sliders. They are 10" longer due to the frame extension.

2fpower, thanks for the quick reply. I mean where the sliders attach to the frame. They almost look like maybe a 2x6 section of tubing with the side cut off.

Thanks,
Andrew

Oh, no, those are 1/4 plate that I bent to the shape. Did it on a homemade press brake. Not the easiest thing to make, but ends up that there is two sizes needed and I like them to fit pretty snug.

There is a company that will sell them to you premade. @StucknKS should know who that was.

I got my set from 4xinnovations originally but a quick look at their website and I don’t see anything listed for 80’s anymore. May take a phone call them to see if they still offer them.

I spoke with Adam at 4x Innovations and unfortunately they no longer sell the slider brackets.
