This pic needs some explainin'. The first picture is actually after I was winched out and backed down the hill. You can see Yoda up top and you can barely make out Mike's rig in the woods in the center left of the image.

So it begins, that I was leading the pack in Boost... Yes, the least capable rig was leading. The choice. I felt like I was on a gameshow... do you take Door #1, Door #2, or Door #3. I tried door #3, the path on the right. Hit a big hole and with my street tires (called AT tires) was stuck. Was able to back out but hit a big rock, stuck for good. Josh made it halfway, and on the second try made it to the top on the far left path. Mike did circles up and down on the far right path and really where ever he pointed the rig. Good thing as I made him come back and pull me out of the hole.

I backed up to the position on the first pic and with full lockers hit it hard, making it almost to where Yoda is in pic, when the back end came loose, and I almost got T boned by a tree. See the second pic -- where I ended up. I was laughing hysterically, crying as it was the most fun I have had in some time. Josh yelled across the radio "nice parallel parking job". Which made me laugh harder as he had just asked me to teach him for his driving test. Not sure they teach this at school anymore.

Boost was able to back up and do a 10 point turn and almost got all the way out of the mess. Yoda gave a tug to get me out of some snow that is behind the trees in the center.

Getting stuck, almost wrecking your rig in the middle of nowhere. This hobby is not for everyone. However, with great friends and family, My daughter and i was able to climb through a muddy and snowy hill on street tires.

Bottom line, some folks love Yellowstone. To me it was like a zoo. You are told to park your vehicle in this lot, and walk on this sidewalk and follow all the rules, while you look across the field at mother nature.

I like to get my hands and tires dirty, camp where I want with the goal of getting lost. Colorado is my playplace.

Wow! That looks like it would be a BLAST!

Amazing trip! I love it when a plan comes together. Congratulations Josh. It is a beautiful Ute and I can't wait to help you skin the bed with the 80 body panels.:bounce::bounce2::clap:

The high idle issue kept getting worse, so decided to work on it. From Ih8mud research, decided the main causes were throttle position snesor on the throttle body, the ecu temp gauge and throttle cable.

Since I had another throttle body laying around, @7powernerd cleaned it up, and we swapped it on. At the same time we changed out all the vacuum hoses under the intake clamshell. We also cleaned off the connections on the temp sensor for the ECU - not dumb gauge (third sensor from front of engine).

All that did not fix it, so we changed out the throttle cable last night, which seemed to fix it. We will post up if we need other suggestions.

Lagging issues are: The brakes still spongy, so that will need to get fixed. Hopefully I can get help from @kc_chevota on that project.

Also have a ABS light on. Plan to pull the sensors, clean them off and retry.

Well said brother! I completely agree.

Question on ABS system.

We have an ABS light on that I would like to track down the issue. Is there a way to figure out why the light is on?

When I worked on the rear axle, I think that I painted over the ABS ring. Will the sensor still read it painted?

Yes, they should still read when painted. They are a proximity sensor that uses magnetic pulses generated when the teeth pass by the metal portions of the tip of the sensor.

When you rebuilt the front axle, did you remember to install the rings on the birfs there? I made that mistake.

With all the work you've done, I would be more inclined to think it's a loose / broken wire someplace.

 I love these colors and design! Making me reconsider Monstaliner.
Monstaliner is the real deal. Just had two trees (lumber in waiting) slap the holy crud out of my off road rig foo, and the Monsaliner looks great still. Caved in the entire rear side of the quarter.

Having said that --- prep is the most important to any paint job. I have my system down and do not stray from it.

Getting ready to throw desert tan on an 80. should look awesome.

Not much progress on the car, Josh has just been driving it daily to school. We need to put a new valve cover gasket on as there's a good oil leak.

Started working on his Christmas present....
