Need to be replaced on my truck. Should I order these parts through a NAPA, dealership, or one of the lc sites like man-a-fre, etc. The radiator has sprung a leak and I am going to look into having it repaired before considering buying a new one. I ordered one of troll hole's carb's so hopefully that will arrive later this week. I am also contemplating updating some of the seals. I did the sea foam can in the carb a few weeks ago and I could tell that there is some leaking at the air intake etc. Hopefully I can get her patched up before the snow flies.

i got one oem fan clutch from Cdan a year ago $153

Napa is fine for the thermostat - don't forget the squared rubber o-ring. Aftermarket fan clutches have a bad rep on here. C-Dan is the best source for those.

i just bought a fan clutch at autozone for $50.00 with a lifetime waranty. i also bought a thermostat there. Make sure you spray a lot of wd-40 on everything you take off, let those bolts soak!

My radiator also looks like it's about to kick it. Its leaking a bit at both top corners. I searched, and the best price I could find was about $200.00. I also found that I could buy a "universal" Be Cool brand aluminum radiator for about the same price from Jegs or Summit racing. There will be some bracket fabbing, but I think that is the route I will go. Just thought I'd share.

i got a used fan clutch for like 5 bucks from cruiserparts.net

If you're doing all that, replace the water pump, too. Mine kicked it at 206,000. I got the water pump and fan clutch very reasonably from Cdan.

Cruiserdan will be your friend here. Get the thermostat, 2 gaskets, and fan clutch from him. They will be first rate Toyota parts.

The radiator is harder. I don't think I'd recommend the uber expensive OEM radiator. I would not recommend the CCoT radiator either (my top tank seem split after just 2 years).

I did like the Performance Radiator I installed last year. It was made in Thailand, but seemed pretty good quality.

On the water pump-they usually give a bit of warning by leaking out the weephole before they go. Check it every oil change, and replace when it starts to go bad.

Well I ended up at NAPA during lunch today and picked up what I need, although I think I am missing a gasket. I am cheap out of necessity and with the radiator issue that needs to be addressed I sort of have to make my dollars stretch. I did not notice anything leaking from the weep hole regarding the water pump. Hopefully this will do it once I get everything patched up. I plan on buying the 1990 FSM off of ebay this evening and just maybe I can to work on all of this stuff this weekend. I plan on starting tearing everything down this evening, removing the radiator and carb. Should be fun. Thanks for the responses and if the water pump ends up being part of the problem I will get that from the dealer.

Edit: My truck only has 133k on the motor so I am hoping that the water pump is not part of the problem.

1990 is a totally different truck. Why are you buying that book?

I am pretty sure it is the book that covers all year of the FJ6x series. I saw that posted a couple of different places here on Mud. If I am wrong lemme know before I do something stupid.

I would order the one JUST for your rig from he stealer ship. They are much more specific about your rig . BUT if its dirt cheap...what the heck
I think I have it mistaken as the guy was looking for FJ62 FSM when I saw the post I thought the person who posted meant the 1990 was the bible for all models. If anyone knows for sure, please chime it.

I think I may just drop by the dealership on the way home and see if I can order it from them.

I went to the dealership to inquire about the fsm and the ysaid it could be a couple months before they got it. So, I think I will try and get it else where. Is there a manual just for the engine? I have downloaded the chasis/body manual but it does not seem to cover the thermostat. I went to this site to download the manual and I did not see one for the 2F. Toyota Workshop & Repair Manuals - Page: 2
Also, what are the part numbers for both gaskets for the thermostat? Are they 16341 & 16346? I need 18 and 20 in the SOR pic below.

Housing gasket (#20 in the SOR diagram) = 16341
Thermostat gasket (#18 in the diagram) = 16346

A great source for part numbers is toyodiy.com
Enter your VIN and you'll be able to search Toyota part numbers for your rig - complete with diagrams much like the SOR site. Have to say the SOR site rocks for schematics and the quality is a bit better than toyodiy, but it's nice to get the Toyota numbers.

After looking into having my radiator cleaned up and re-cored it does not look like it is very cost effective when comparing the price to just buying a new one to replace the bad radiator. I was looking at the aluminum radiators that Jegs sells and it looks like the one they have for Chevys is plumbed correctly as far as hose placement. The aluminum radiator they have, 24x19 looks like it would fit but how difficult would it be to fab brackets to get it to mount correctly? Has anyone taken this approach. I understand that normally people use aluminum for 350s but the aluminum radiator Jegs has is about $100 cheaper than what a direct replacement rediator would cost. If anyone has any related experience going this route please let me know. Thanks.

Don't forget the anti-seize on the thermostat housing bolts when you put it back together. You'll be glad you did next time.
