I recently purchased a 1988 FJ62, and recognize that one of the first things that I'm going to need is a factory service manual. I know that they can be ordered directly from Toyota (~ $75?) but I've seen used manuals on eBay and other places for less. My question is, is the "Factory Service Manual" that people refer to on these boards the same thing as the "Repair Manual"?

Not sure if it still is going on, but in the past some of the manuals on ebay were photocopy/rebind jobs that didn't include things like electrical diagrams.

I would think that the repair manual would be the same as a FSM, but that manual looks very thin. The body and chassis manual for the FJ60/62 and my 2F engine manual combined are about 1 1/2" thick. Those cover the same scope as stated on the cover of that repair manual, but it doesn't look anywhere near that thick.

I have a manual that looks just like that for the '88. my cruiser is an '88 so it's all good. If it is the same as mine it has electrical schmatics.

I also have a much thicker
"1984 Land Cruiser ( Heavy Duty) Repair manual for chasis & body".

And an A440F transmision repair manual that I don't know where it is right now, so I can't quote the exact title.

The thick one has many of the same things as the one you show above. But if the year matches your truck the thinner one has a few secific items the thicker one may not cover as well.

I like having both and started with the thinner one. It wasn't until I pulled the drive train I needed the thicker repair manual.

Repair manual is not the same thing as service manual

Thanks everyone. There are some options on eBay - and I may see if I can grab one of those on the cheap (and keep my fingers crossed that it has everything).
