Anyone interested in going for a cruise through Paliza canyon this Sunday? Hope it's still open to 4x4s! I heard that it's now a mild trail and very stocker friendly.

Meet at North portal at 9:30. Bring food, kids, dogs, warm clothes, recovery gear, etc.

I'm game if it's still open. The last time I ran the trail the lower end had not changed. The upper end was improved to fight a fire.

Sounds like fun but duty calls. I work Sunday this week. Be sure to take pictures so I can web wheel through you guys.

Name of the prescribed burn: Paliza Pile Burn

Start date: October 28

Location: Jemez Ranger District, approximately 5 miles NE of the community of Ponderosa, NM

Total acreage: The goal is to incrementally treat 500 acres of slash piles through hand ignition over the fall/winter as conditions allow.

Possible smoke impacts: Smoke may be visible from the Jemez corridor, Ponderosa, Jemez Springs, La Cueva, along State Highway 550 between Zia Pueblo and SanYsidro, and from I-25 between Bernalillo and Santa Fe.

Did they get any snow up there yet? Sante Fe had some small hail when I was up there yesterday.

I might be able to join in if I'm not wrenching on my 40... I haven't been over there in 10+ years. How's the trail? Is it an all day run?

Climbermac, where are you? I'm in Casa Alegre.

Always best to plan for an all day run, they tend to turn out that way, even if not planned.

I don't know if they closed any roads while burning, but I don't think so. Since the TMR lawsuit is on hold while the judge considers letting the greenies side with the FS  it is being implemented. They are focused on education this year, so mostly telling people about it rather than writing tickets. However, this year you can still go anywhere to get firewood with a permit. That will change next year.

I'll be there. I need to get out of all these honey-dos and enjoy the great fall weather.

Sorry gents, life just got in the way.

OK---so....how did it go?....is Paliza Canyon open? :p:bounce::bounce2:
did you get some......PICTURES I mean....you know I'm a picture whore

Paliza canyon is NOT open...although, we managed to fall into it some how!! We came out using Paliza canyon trail for a shot while.

We ran into snow/ice for a little bit and some mud here and there. All in all, good times.

SFNF has some serious trail sign work to do. Trail # don't match their NMVUM (NM Vehicle Use Map) and if you accidentally end up on a closed trail, you get cited.
