Not to hijack the OP’s thread, but for those intrigued by the spare mounting solution Kaymar offers an aftermarket swing out that I THINK can be fitted to a US 200.

It does show out of stock, and shipping will be a lot. you can always look to source it for UAE, never hurts to ask. Verify the part number with your model/vin before you order.

I checked and shipping to the US is $371. I could get it there and then ship it here but that would add up to the same price as getting it here. Oh, man!!

Man, those are really nice. I wish we had access to all the goodies in Australia.

Here's the full parts list.
No guarantee the weld nuts will be there under the sheet metal.

And the 200s these are on have a vertical split rear door, not horizontal like the US.
Some, like his have a tailgate like our US models, but with an offset license plate and a latch keeper built in for the release latch. Me likey.

hmm. interesting. Thanks for correcting me!

Toyota produced both styles. Part number for the liftgate trucks is 51903-60160.

Before ordering, I would inspect the latch that grabs onto the tailgate, along with the rubber stopper and vertical catch on the top liftgate. If the slop does prove to be in those outer hinges, it may(?) be cheaper to have them drilled out, and new bolts or sleeves inserted. Those would have to be sourced from somewhere other than Toyota.

Try carmarka.com, usually quite a bit less money, but can take longer to get it.

For those looking to convert, the tailgate is also required... along with a bunch of additional parts. The support braces for the corner hinges are available, no idea how the access is for install.

I'm going to take it off and take it to a shop here. Guys here are very resourceful but it could also be that once it's taken apart and it cannot be fixed that I will have to purchase the new one. I'll let you all know what I end up doing.

I looked up the part on carmarka.com but the shipping is what makes it not worth buying it from there.

Thank you all for all the help and suggestions.

That's the Kaymar..

A few notes on the OEM tire carrier install process. I've seen a few locals doing it and they highlighted a few points for the aftermarket installed vs a factory built cruiser with the tire carrier as standard:

The install requires replacement of a complete lower rear door (with number plate on the side) which I was told has internally reinforced sheet metal.

Also needs some reinforcement brackets with the nuts behind the mounting points. These are usually fabbed up locally as normal cruisers don't have it. Some users with bad installs reported issues with vibration/ rattling, with a few horror stories about mount points bending while offroading as it is only on sheet metal. However, I haven't seen any such cases yet.

Moral of the story: adding the OEM tire carrier has more to it than just sourcing the parts

I have a 2008 LC200 with the factory spare tire carrier that is very loose and annoying because it keeps closing on me. It came with a pin that can be inserted at the top swing arm but is there a way to make it tighter so it doesn't swing so easily? Any other solutions someone here has tried besides using the pin?

Thanks in advance.

Common mod to solve this is adding a hydraulic strut on top:

This is really nice. I think I'm going to try this. I'll look for the strut because I think that would be easy to find here.

Thanks for sharing.
