I have a 1996 LC with the Factory Running Boards (Black, w/Lockers, 53K miles by the way). The other day I noticed something hanging down from underneath the drivers side running board and went to inspect the situation. There is an aluminium tube approx 1 inch in diameter with two electrical wires towards the rear of the vehicle running down the center of the bottom of the running board. It seems a couple of the plastic retaining clips had broken and the front of the tube was hanging down. I searched my FSM and couldn't find any reference to this part. A trip to the dealer only produced puzzled looks from the techs and parts man who had no idea what this tube was. They gave me some heavy-duty zip ties to secure the part temporarily but no idea how to order the retaining clips or even what the tubing and electrical connection was for. Any ideas?

no such tube on my RB's, where does it go to?

PO wiring for something? Have you traced where these wires go either front or rear? May be helpful in figuring it out. I don't recall anything like that on my '94 and my running boards have been there since new (I bought it that way...hehehe). My drivers side running board is drooping a little in the middle from 10 years of usage, but no wires underneath it.

oh yes, the infamous neon tube accessory...
did you buy it in Central L.A. by any chance? :D

Really? :D

I will have to check the wiring more carefully; it probably is something aftermarket added on by PO although I don't see any lights. It is just a long aluminium tube.

I purchased it from the local Toyota dealer; it is a 53K, mint, Black LC w/ diff locks, towing package, sunroof, leather, third row seats, etc., etc.

I may have to make it to a Lowrider, if it has lights underneath!! LOL

Did you get any warranty from said Yota dealer? Take it back to them and let them figure it out!

Yep - just like it's owner after 46+ years! hehehe :flipoff2:

Little bow that doesn't exist on the PS. Hmmm.......wonder if that gives me enough of an excuse to put Christo's sliders on ....... even if they would probably never be used for their intended purpose (comment added for Cdan's benefit). They'd certainly look better than the running boards.

Wiring for brakes or a ACC for a trailer? Do you have a hitch?

Even in Idaho we have the pimpin lights under our rigs! Mine don't dance to the subwoofers, they just find rocks.

Oh and Junk my diff is back to black the :flipoff2: green smiley dude was wearing off. So no more bling there.
