Hey,

I have a 2008 Prado VX, and mine was equipped with factory fogs, My issue is that they only turn on when I have my headlights on and not when I have my parking lights on. I want to know what I have to do so the fogs turn on when I have my parking lights on and not my headlights.

Here is a pic this was before the HIDS:

I don´t know if you could change the original coupling, maybe it´s difficult.

So, maybe the easiest way is connect them like extra high beams: take 12V from battery (20A fuse between) to relay pole 30, 12V from parking light wire to relay pole 86, the earth via the fog light switch to pole 85, then wires(+) to fog beams from pole 87 and an other wire from fog light bulp to the earth.

You need to cut couple of original wires, which is not so nice thing, but if you do it right (with waterproof connection/"shrink sock") it´ll not ever become a problem.

I just installed extra high beams (stainless steel Bosch Navigator Blue) and thicker wires and relays for low/high beams (to getting voltage loses to minimum) to my 90:

I had to connect high beam indicator light off, because the system is made negative controlled. Hard to explain in english, but if the indicator light is at it´s place, I had low and high beams at the same time on! It´ll not work long time. So, I had to connect the indicator light direct from the relay to the earth. Now it works properly way as before.

It should be doable.

Somewhere under the hood you should find fuse and relay box. In there you should find the Front fog lamp reley.

The switch in the dashboard gives ground to the coil in the relay and the headlamps provide 12volt power.

This is usually the way toyota wires the fog lamps, at least this is the way the lamps are wired in Tacoma pickups, this is most likely this way in the Prado.

You can open the fusebox and tap tail lamps to the relay instead of the headlamp power. This takes some skills, lift the fuse box, turn it upside down and remowe the bottom, then you can find the right wires and make the change.

You can also remove the relay, find out wich pin is the headlamp, cut it off the relay and soldier a wire to the rest of the pin. If must soldier the new wire just next to the bottom of the relay. Now you connect this new wire to the tail lamps, and plug the relay back in its place. make sure the new wire does not touch the old connector in the relay socket. Cover the hole in the socket with electric tape for example.

I have done this couple of times in Tacaomas, works perfectly ;)

Haffi, thanks for the advice, would you happen to have any pics or a write up on how to do this????
