What is the weight of the "F" engine? I am considering a swap and i really don't want to get to much heavier. I was thinking the vortec 6000? I would really love to do the 6.6 duramax but I know that the engine must weigh almost twice that of the "F".

Ryan.

You would be surprized how much it weighs. All old Iron. I would say around 600 pounds, Just for the engine.

I had a long block shipped to me not that long ago. The manifest said #500. I think it would be heavier than that though.

600-650, IIRC

If replacing an F with a duramax the weight would not be that far off. If I remember correctly a Duramax comes in at 835 pounds which is a lot but not as bad as it would be without aluminum heads. 520 ft-lb of torque at 1800 RPM???? DANG!

A 6.0 L is a great deal lighter than an f.

I *carried* an empty F block up 14 stairs a couple weeks ago.....
