Marshall,
Didn't see an F thread - if I missed it sorry for creating another one. I just bought a 1971 FJ55, stock F motor with no carburetor. I'm going to tear the wagon down for a rebuild but would first like to get the motor running just to see if I just need to freshen it up or completely rebuild.

Since I'd be looking to you for an F carb, just looking for some advice. I'll mount it up but it won't be on there for long once I start the disassemble process. Can the carb sit on a shelf for a year or so and still be fine for reinstall down the road? Is there anything I need to do for storage? And I guess the most critical question is, does it make sense to have one ordered now when it's just going to come right off?

If you could advise, I would really appreciate it.

Thanks in advance.

I would recommend Mark Algazy at marksoffroad.net to source your carb. After trying it out, I don't see a reason why you couldn't store it. Just clean it up, and spray some oil/WD-40 on it for storage until your ready.Good luck!

Sorry for not responding sooner.

I have had hundreds of people who in the past 2 years order a carb and have yet to install it. I see no issue with that as long as it''s stored in the original packaging. That being said if it's had gasoline run through it that will be a different story. That's really a crap shoot. If you drain as much gas as you can out of it and use some compressed air in all the orifices it could be assumed you would be okay. Though it's hard to say. Any carb that's been left unused with gas it it longer than 3-6 months will probably have issues.
