I’m shopping for the best price for a Toyota extended warranty. I opted out of the warranty at purchase time because the price seemed inflated. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers,

Frequent question, so there are 2 threads on this in the forum FAQs. Here‘s one of them:

Due to recent AC panel issue, I just got 8 years / 125k Platinum for $2600 from local Toyota dealer. It’s ok not great price from what I have seen.

That’s a good price right now.

When I bought my ‘14 LC in Oct 2019 as a CPO, I got the Platinum 8yr/125k for ~$1400 iirc. They started in the high $3k range when originally quoted, but apparently CPO and credit union affiliation make a difference.

So you pro-rated cost? 8 years from 2014, right? So $1400 for 3 more years from 2019?

according to my paperwork its 8 years from the original in service date (09/09/2014) or 125K odo. Bought it with 83k CPO in October 2019 for $1595 / $0 deductible. So really 09/09/2022 or 125K whichever comes first.

What is the average cost for a platinum $0 deductible that you all are seeing? My wifes '18 LC is coming to the end of its 3yr/36,000 warranty. I have been getting quotes for $4700 to 5800 dollars here in the southeast for 7 yrs and 100,000 miles. The are underwritten from Fidelity. This seems pretty excessive. My 2001 100 series has been a tank without any major issues but this 200 series has a lot more expensive electronics that can go bad.

It's hard to get longer terms and mileage that late. Here the best you could get would be a 6 year 72k platinum $0 and would be $3,244. That is an additive so 6 years from when you purchase and 72k on top of the 35k ya have. I bought a 10 year 150k from myself at cost for a little over $4k in January, but it was brand new so I could get the extra term and mileage. Cruisers are rated higher than other Toyotas by a long shot, probably from the initial cost of the vehicle so a service contract on one of ours is a LOT more than a 4Runner or Tundra.

Thank you for the insight. Are Toyota dealers allowed to see warranties to out of state customers?

Yes, you can use ANY Toyota dealer across the nation. I got mine for $2600…see post #3.

Can you let me know what dealer sold you the plan for $2600?

I called 5 dealers around my area (NW Florida) and they all stated that this state regulates extended service warranties through the Department of Insurance and their prices are fixed per the state. The following is what the rates were at all 5 dealers.

Platinum coverage: 7 years/100K miles

$5707 + Florida tax on $0 deductible
$4116 + tax on $100 deductible
$3669 + tax on $250 deductible

On Technology Only coverage: 7 years/100K miles

$1216 + tax on $100 deductible (the lowest deductible offered)

I was quoted the following in August of 2018 for the Toyota Extra Care Platinum with $0 deductible :

10/100k is $2230
10/125k is $3055

I opted for the 10/125k

I’m curious what you mean by “rated” in this context. Average service fees or something?

All I know is that the extended warranty cost is more on LC than Tacoma.
