Extended shock towers - 14" Rancho 9000XL's

Tried a bit more flexing last night, a bit tough cause everything in Tulsa is wet if it's not completely under water. Really wanted to get back to ya'all with some measurements though after I extended rear sway bar links. I managed to get the springs to unseat in the rear, though the front is still bound up pretty tight.

and here are some more attempts at getting it to flex that didn't quite yeild as extreme #'s. Had trouble just getting up onto this little mount this time since it's so wet out. Rear is exposed about 9" here, and about on the bumpstop on the other side (I think, it was hard to tell - see other link, I was in dress clothes and unwilling to crawl). The front isn't doing anything close to the pictures above, and no where near unseating the spring. Rear is definately doing all the work here!

At the bumpstop there is an inch or so of shock left, which is fine by me since more weight and rapid movement can get the bumpstop to compress more than poser pics.

How do you like the ride of the Ranchos? I have blown out 3 of my es9000's and am thinking of upgrading to these. My pro comps also seemed to cause some vibration as if they were unable to handle the ome springs and the Load range E 315's. Do you feel that the adjustability can give you a plush off road ride and be firmed up for highway use?

Thanks

I like them. And it is nice to be able to firm up for road and then soften for bumpy gravel or off road. The one thing I won't do again is put in the remote system. I had lots of leak issues with the crappy plastic fittings they supply and it's an odd size tubing to get any others.

I would rather work in OK heat then Maine bitter winter, I hate doing projects outside where my hands hurt within a minute. Thanks for giving me something else to do on truck!!!(jerk) I agree with you wanting to mount ranchos with knob up top, not only safer but (at least in nasty winter weather) it will keep the knob out of corrosion and crappyness. So you can fit the extended mounts without body lift???

I used to live in WI, so I feel the cold pain. Even if you get the garage warm, all the tools are still frozen.

You can fit the extended mounts without a body lift, it's just how far up you can go that is different. Without going and looking at my truck I'm pretty sure I could have gone that high even w/o the body lift. In the front it's a little crowded around the master cylinder. But my towers are also pretty wide to accomodate the shock bodies. Running ES9000's or RS9000's or most any other shocks you could go narrower.

I did something similiar to WEagle with my rear upper mounts and I do not have a body lift.
The onlt problem is that it is really tight in there and it was a real PITA to get all hooked up.
But it is doable.
