I’m in the process of restoring the body and interior of my early 80 series, and converting to more of a “Poverty Pack” style (no flare, no sunroof, no 3rd row, Australian door cards exposing the top of the doors, etc…)

Since I removed the sunroof, I have to redo the old style headliner. I was looking at my 62 series fire truck for inspiration, and am considering copying the headliner style it uses. Compared to a US spec truck, the pillars are all exposed. There’s a strip at the windshield that allows the headliner to be installed without messing with it (similar to the rear hatch). It really highlights the utilitarian nature of the truck.

Was that style headliner ever offered on a non-US 80?

I just picked up my first 80 series and the headliner is falling in a few places so I plan on doing something very similar. I havent dropped it yet to see whats underneath but can keep you up to date with what I am working on.

I'm in southfield so not too far, and very comfortable fabbing up parts (I have a 2.5 axis CNC and a bambu lab P1S) but sewing and fabric is not my jam. Im hoping I can put some kind of cargo net up, especially in the 3rd row area.

I finally got the headliner down yesterday and was able to snap a few pictures. Still needs some cleanup in a few places but could end up looking pretty good. Paint is definitely going to be needed in a few places though if you wanted to show off the steel for some of the pillars

@therubbishraider are these holes threaded?

I'm wondering if the seat belt can be raised up to this hole?

Looks to me like Toyota never intended the pillars to stay exposed. You can see spot welds in a lot of places.

Looks kinds unfinished. If you were going to paint, some filler would make it look cleaner

On my truck, that hole is threaded.

My painter smoothed out the spot welds on the B and C pillars when he did my body work. Unfortunately there was some miscommunication in the process, and he didn't prep / paint the A pillar. I haven't picked direction to go yet, but I will be deciding this week. If I do the exposed pillars, I'll clean up the A pillars and hit them with some Duplicolor 045.
