Anyone here have experience with the Borla Cat-Back Exhaust system? What are your thoughts on the performance increase, noise level, quality of fit, etc.

Also, where is the best place to find one for a good price online?

Thanks in advance!

My first experience with the Borla was last spring on my 80, which now belongs to Todd Kaderabek. I paid about $550 for it and did the install myself. The main issue was that in the process of removing the stock exhaust, I grenaded two of the rubber vibration mounts the exhaust hangs on at mid-point and in the back. The nuts were frozen and the studs twisted off in the mounts. So, there was another $35 bucks and a week delay waiting on parts. The next issue was that the Borla mounting straps were not in the right places so they required serious bending with torch heat to match up. What should have been a 90 minute ordeal was a 6 hour ordeal and a serious burn on my right thumb. Even after I got it mounted, I had to go spend $30 at a muffler shop to have the rear hanger cut and rewelded so the tip wouldn't rattle on the Kaymar. The Borla came after three years with the supercharger, so any "performance" gain went way unnoticed. For the first week or so, the throaty growl made me keep looking for the Peterbilt in my rear view mirror. After a couple weeks it went entirely unnoticed. The ONLY pro is that it removes that bulky collector and gives you a wee bit more departure. But IMO, its overrated and certainly wasted if you have the blower.

Bought one this summer for $375 delivered (on clearance). It comes in a box big enough to use as a coffin (that's next Halloween  )

Install wasn't bad, but the mounts needed some minor tweaking to fit right. (As mentioned before, expect to replace all the rubber factory mounts and do some bending on the Borla brackets. You'll also want to look at new hardware/gasket on the cat end.)

Sound is very pleasing from the cabin - deep but does not droan at all. I can barely hear it at highway speeds.

Sound from outside is, in my opinion, not that impressive. It has more buzz than rumble. Definitely won't be confused with a V8 with a Flowmaster.

I painted mine black b/c the shiny stainless fully visible under the truck looks too bling for me.

If I had it to do over again, I probably would, but not if I had to pay more than I did. Otherwise I'd try harder to find a muffler that could be welded in for less than $120 bucks.

I have had mine for several years. In the case of 93-94 the fitment does not seem to be as finicky as it is in 95-up. I opted for one because I like a bit of exhaust note and the OEM system was too plain for my tastes. In addition, I had spanked my stock muffler a few times and the case was dented and it was developing some cracks on the ends of the muffler "can".
The Borla muffler body is smaller in diameter than the stock muffler and it is tucked in a bit higher. I have not dented it yet and it only has one "scratch" in the muffler body. The tail pipe is a different story. The un-modified Borla tip exit location BEGS to get smashed. When I had my stock bumper ends I removed the RH side and took a floor jack and bent the tailpipe up about 4 inches and I cut a 4 inch diameter 1/2 circle in the bumper end to clear the tip.

When I added my Slee rear bumper the option of notching was out because the bumper needs all of it's material in that area to properly support the spare tire carrier spindle. I had a local muffler shop cut the tail pipe off behind the rear axle and then fit a new custom bent pipe that was tucked way up out of the way. That mod cost about 55 bucks and the only drawbacks are that it is not a stainless pipe and I lost the cool-looking polished stainless Borla tip.

seems the Borla's are around $450 everywhere lately, anyone seen one for below $400 recently?

i didnt like the sound of my borla so i took it off and put a dynomax turbo muffler on....borla sounded tinny, high pitched

I love the sound of my Borla. It was on the truck when I bought it, so I don't have any perfomance improvement data. I notice the sound most when I first start it up ~ really cool VROOM noise. After that, just a nice mellow tone. It droans a tiny bit at freeway speeds, but I hardly notice anymore. Of course, that could be because of the giant leak I have between my cats.

I banged the after-the-cats-under-the-frame exhaust pipe on a rock and it pushed the pipe up into the frame, making a nice dent on the top and the bottom and I have noticed a little bit of a performance hit there, but I can't honestly isolate that to the dents. It could be due to the bad cat gasket that was a result of the crunched pipe. I'm hoping an exhaust shop can just replace that small section with new pipe.

I may be wrong, but i dont think its available for the 93-94's anymore.

I see alot available for the 95+ but nothing for 93-94. Anyone?
