we tentatively picked the last week in July-first week in August to go.

I'm planning on 4 days to drive out and 4 days to drive back with 8 wheeling days in the middle.

We talked about 4 days at Uoray and then drive to another location for another 4 day stint.

Nothing is set in stone as we want to check to make sure we don't find ourselves in the middle of some big event with a few hundred other trucks.

Of course people can adjust this to their schedule as they need to.

here are the dates that have been agreed upon

7/23/2011 – 7/26/2011 travel to Ouray CO.

7/26/2011 – 7/30/2011 explore Ouray

7/31/2011 travel up to Moab UT.

7/31/2011 – 8/3/2011 explore Moab

8/4/2011 – 8/7/2011 travel home

I've already made reservations at the Comfort Inn in Ouray CO and the Holiday Inn in Moab UT. Both these hotels have cancellation policies that if canceled prior to 4:00pm on the day of arrival there is no charge.

There is already limited rooms available for these dates.

Rick,

Thanks for the hotel info.

We are good with the dates. I am going to have a slightly modified agenda. We will meet you guys in Ouray for the first two days, then proceed to Grand Junction and drive the Kokopelli trail. We will meet up with you guys again for the final two days in Moab. With a retirement goal of going around the world, I want to take the opportunity to get some experience and lessons learned being independent of hotels and civilization.

It's been mentioned for us to spend time in Arches so our exact itinerary is not nailed down either.

There is so much to see out there.

I jumped on getting the hotels as they fill up fast and there is no penalty to cancel. Last night there was only 1 double queen room available in Ouray after I made my reservation. From years past this time is big vacation time with people from Europe.

Jealous.....Maybe I can talk Brianna into holding off on the wedding for a year?

we won't be that far from Vegas. Hit that first and then meet up with us for the honeymoon.

maybe we can get a group discount!;)

I'm thinking along these lines too. I did a good chunk of the Kokopelli trail when I was in CO/UT a few years ago. Highly recommend it.

I have a relative that lives in Crested Butte, CO. He's an Ultra Marathon runner and has submitted an application to run in the Hard Rock 100. (100 mile run in the San Juans.) If he's selected I'll be in Silverton on July 8th to crew for him. I don't know if I'll stick around through the end of the month to meet up with everyone. We'll see.

We are unfortunately out. Double whammy. Sheri can't get more than one week off due to the busy season at the hotel and my company has me scheduled for training during this period. I already started spending $$ on the prep for this trip, but will keep going so that everything's ready for the next opportunity.

I"m still aiming for making this trip. So count me in as one truck.

sounds good Alex!

I've updated the first post to include our (mine and Jim's) itinerary. Since we are traveling with family we opted to get hotels for their comfort. We have decided to make three stops while out there.

All are welcome to join us for the whole trip or any part of it.

I will say that if gas does indeed get to $5/gallon i will probably put this trip on delay. Just saying.
