I have a light exhaust leak between the header and y pipe on my 96 and was thinking I might be able to put a multi-layer exhaust gasket between the surfaces to seal the leak. Any idea what size 2 bolt gasket would fit? I've dug around a good bit in the Toyota parts catalog and the only thing that shows is the donut style gasket, which I will replace as well, but that isn't the part I am looking for.

Not sure what you're trying to do here. There is a donut that goes inside the flange and there's 2 studs and 2 nuts for each pipe. That's it. If it's leaking, then the donut needs to be replaced. I would also purchase OEM hardware and coat it with high temperature anti-sieze.

Just happened to have my Magnaflow y pipe off my 80. The top is the OEM gasket and the lower the one that came with the y pipe. That's all that's in there. The manifolds have a cast indention for these to fit right in. Pretty straight forward.

Jon - anti-seize only on the nut side or the stud threads in to the manifold and head?

Obvious question, but did u try tightening the bolts first? Mine were extremely loose. I was able to turn them a full turn easily. It made my leak almost non existent after I tightened them up.

The bolts are tight, hit em with the impact gun and while it helped it didn't fully cure the exhaust leak. I'll throw new donuts in this weekend and see if that resolves the problem.

I use Permatex for all exhaust hardware. It will smoke a bit the first time, but the hardware is removable without drama several years later.

I had a leak at this connection. Didn't even look at fixing it myself as my muffler shop is a really good dude. Anyway, I had lost a nut. I asked him if he used thread locker on it and he said, literally, verbatim, what @jonheld said "I use PermaTex. It'll smoke for s few minutes but it'll hold and you'll be able to remove it down the road." He did check the donut and it was still in there and good. And he backed the other but off and replaced it. Also with PermaTex. Yes, I felt pretty stupid for not doing it myself. Oh and he didn't charge me.

Does anyone have the Toyota part #s for the studs and nuts for the exhaust flange connection between header and y-pipes mentioned above? I had my short block replaced a while back and I don’t think my mechanic changed the donut gaskets when he has this connection apart. Now I’ve got a droaning / vibration noise at highway speed and only on acceleration. Sounds like a deep bass / rapid noise.
