One of the studs on my exhaust J-Tube was broken. I had to drill it out. Now I need to tap it with a helicoil. Does anyone know the bolt size/thread so I can order the correct helicoil? I've looked everywhere and can't find it in the parts manual or on MUD. Please help!

I have a new stud, and the drilled out hole is pretty close to the same size, instead of a helicoil, do you all think JB Weld around the stud threads would hold enough to work? I'm capping off with my De-Smog.

Thanks!

Original stud thread is M8x1.25.
That fitting will burn off any adhesive applied to it. Exhaust temperature can get over 800°F.

Time-sert is something Toyotamatt pointed me to I hadn’t seen before. Looks like a good alternative.

You guys are awesome! Thanks for the quick replies! I like the time-sert idea. I've used one of those on a spark plug hole before. It's still holding up 10 years and 50k miles later!

You can also use a step-down stud:

But if you're capping it for a desmog, I've seen people just weld a plug in the large hole.

Also, on some years, that threaded hole for the stud is machined all the way into the exhaust, so may need to be closed, too.

I've had good luck with helicoil/permacoil in the past. I think I'm going to order this kit.

I'm sure I'll have a need for it again as I continue my restoration.

and I don't want to weld it. I already bought the Jim C. desmog kit with the plug for it. I'm keeping all my smog stuff in case I ever have to put it back on. Currently in North Idaho there are no smog regulations, but more and more people are moving here from the west coast and trying to make it like the place they came from...

the manifold is off the engine?

you could just get a "new" rear horn and just replace it.
I happen to know where there are a few of them in the next state over.
