Ever Consider Anything Other Than a 100 series? So, for the time being I still have m

All this MB talk is making me gag.

Anyway, back at ih8mud.... I would probably go with a Tundra, since I don't do much technical off-roading anymore. Most family camping is dirt roads that I could probably make in a Subaru. Truck bed is nice for home projects as well. 200 would be a close second runner.

But my 100 only has 160k now and since I drive it 5k per year, it's not going anywhere anytime soon.

If I needed something bigger, I'd consider the 2015 Nissan Titan with optional 5.0 liter Cummins turbo diesel (>500lbs-ft of torque).

we'll see how the Titan does in the half ton market with it's Cummins, or will they try to step into more of a 3/4 ton market? I wish Toyota would step into the 3/4 ton market and throw a diesel in the Tundra! just saying

Absolutely not. Never ever considered anything other than a LC or LX. And...I can't figure out for the life of me how any other LX/LC owners could consider another vehicle. HELLOOOOO.....we own the best vehicles man has ever made. You can ONLY go down from here.

It especially throws me for a loop when a LX/LC owner actually types the words..."Chevy, GMC or Ford" on this forum. I just don't get it.

I can understand where you could see a domestic as a downgrade, but it all depends on the owner IMHO.. I have an 03 Yukon XL I bought new and my oldest son now uses. I'd put it right there with our Cruiser as far as dependability. Never left me stranded and never gave me any problems. Surely I can't just be one of the "lucky" ones lol...
Here's the old girl with just keys and spacers. It's the vehicle our LX replaced actually since we drive for all our vacations due to wife being scared ****less of flying lol.

Anyways me and the wife both agree that for both of us, the LX is perfect for our needs. Does everything we want and takes us anywhere in comfort. As for myself, I think my 4Runner is my irreplaceable ride. Perfect blend of utility, power, and size for those tight dirt trails and ranch roads.. Carries all my gear, tows great, and though not as comfy as the LX, still not bad at all. Like I said I love our Cruiser, but it serves its own purpose and w/o a fault. Thing is I have already raised all but 1 of my kids and am usually driving by myself. And for that it's simply overkill.

What we use the LX for...

What I use my Runner for..

Hate to say it, but you may be lucky in that you bought a 2003. I bought a new 2004 Suburban K2500 with the 8.0L for my wife. Absolutely the worst vehicle I ever had. In the 2 years I had it the dealer had it in their shop a total of 9 months. One stretch was 6 months straight, with my wife driving a minivan (I paid for that, believe me). Unfortunately, given how my state's lemon law worked, the same thing had to break 3 times to clarify. It couldn't seem to deal with everything breaking, one by one. The only thing that worked right was the engine. That from a heavy duty truck used primarily to haul the kids and dogs around.

The dealer finally admitted to me that the 2004 Suburbans were a disaster. I sold it and bought my wife a new Lexus RX Hybrid. No more issues.

I'm picking up a LS430 for a DD when the LC hits 150k and keep it as a weekend vehicle.

+1
'06 ls430 for :princess:, nice rig for sure

Totally concur...a 2006 LS430 in Cypress Pearl with the Ultra Luxury package would be on the list...but only as an addition to the LX470. I would be tempted to get a new Tundra as well, especially if I got a dual sport motorcycle. Latch that in the back and take it up to explore BC for a couple months!

The only two serious vehicles that would replace the 100 would be an 80 or a 200 series. But as it is, I am looking to add a second 100 to the stable.

My guess is that yours was made on a Wednesday and is the exception. It has been rather common, since I can remember, the lack of dependability of American GM SUVs compared to Toyota and Lexus. No secret. Consumer Reports has documented that for many years, not to mention untold personal experiences to confirm. I would also guess that the large majority of GM vehicles sold has nothing to do with quality nor cost.... but rather "patriotism". "Gotta buy American", regardless.

For my use, I personally can't afford to buy an American made SUV. Two reasons.... If it's brand new its waaaaayyyy to expensive for the quality it will give me.....If its used, any price is too expensive for the quality it will give me.

A brand new LX570 is waaaaayyy to expensive for MY budget. I'll let the wealthy wives buy the those SUVs made for the harshest environments on earth yet surrounded by a shell of luxury. Then I will buy that used 80 or 100 LX or LC that has been so deprived of even County maintained dirt roads. That vehicle is STILL very dependable even with "high mileage".

I bought my latest last LX450 with 190K miles for $4955. It began it's life in Beverly Hills on pavement only. It still drives like it is right off the pavement car lot. I've done that six straight times now and my family still drives three of them. It is a fact that I'm not an exception. No American made vehicle can do that the large majority of the time.

I will say I think Cadillac has been really improving lately in their build quality. Good for them and America. American car companies CERTAINLY have the knowledge and ability they just don't. I am just grateful the best SUV on the planet is available for my family here in America.

That's just me.

.

I'm in agreement with this,,,

And to be fair, American car companies have dramatically improved their quality in the last decade. The problem now is they aren't making what consumers really want. The reason why US car companies have 'lagged' in quality is simply management. Unions, wages and unfair competition are not to blame. There are plenty of videos on the net of Toyota plants and production processes, watch them and compare with what happens at GM and you know all you need to know.

Auto manufacturing isn't perfectly competitive. It takes time and a lot of creative destruction before changes occur..There are plenty of industries in the US where the management is just crap.

Last week , I met an American Airlines Dir of Finance that told me with a straight face, "Southwest Airlines is foolish not to charge baggage fees, that's just leaving money on the table.." If you need an explanation for why AA went bankrupt, there it is.

Frankly, I put US car executives and airline executives in the same boat. They've both relied on a lot of government subsidy and protection to produce a product that don't compete well globally..
