I finally got my installation into the 40 figured out. I got a Marks 4wd V8 to Cruiser 4 speed adapter. I got the one that allows you to use the stock GM flywheel and clutch. I figured they were cheaper and more readily available.

The Marks kit is part #MFK560C168
The Clutch is a Zoom #MU5473-1B, or Brute Power #90148
The Flywheel is a Brute Power #50-6504, 163 tooth, SBC internally balanced
The pilot bearing is a Summit GM Roller Bearing #SUM-G1700
The motor mounts are AA #713124

Here she is all wrapped on the trailer ready to go home.:bounce:

I guess I should explain the carb. I have decided to go ahead and install the motor with the carb setup first. There are obviously multiple reasons for this. But the reason that finally made up my mind was the fact that I am going to have Affordable Fuel Injection build me a custom harness and ECM/Chip flash.

I figured I didn't want to be guessing on this setup using an old flash from the PO, plus the Painless harness needs a knock sensor and VSS. I do not want to have to fool with these, plus they cost about $200 for the pair. I sold my harness and ECM/Chip for $175, plus the $200 I saved on the sensors, that gives me $375 towards their stuff. I think it will cost me about $550 to get everything made, so for $175 I have all new stuff with no guess work. Seemed like the logical choice to me.

Plus I can have this thing running this summer instead letting the FI leave my project in limbo. Thanks Marshall. I will probably do the TPI over the winter.

You plan to use the head board as a brush guard?

IH8MUD Forums - View Single Post - What have you done to your Land Cruiser this week?

Yes, his system as MAF setup where mine is MAP (speed density) like on the old Fox body Mustangs. MAP is much easier to get dialed in, and he may have tried to build his own harness from a donor car and flash his own chip. All things that will pro longth eproject. That is why I decided to get AFI to do it. Should be just plug and play for me. But for now it gets the carb because it is bolt on and play. And we all know how we love when something just bolts on.

After a couple of setbacks, like not having the correct engine hoist the first weekend and then my son catching pneumonia the weekend of the Sparks meeting, I finally got the motor in the 40.

Should have her running by next weekend. then I just need to put all the sheetmetal back on, mount the rollbar and seats, and get ready for the boil.

Well, as many of you know I had a few family setbacks preventing me from finishing this build last summer. However, monday was the first day I could get back on it.

I got the radiator mounted, antifreeze in, the tranny/transfer case buttoned up with gear oil in both. I got the plug wires on, dizzy mounted, fuel pump installed, and throttle cable hooked up. I charged the battery for the 4 hours I was working on it, and nothing. I guess the Optima battery that I used for 4 years starting my backhoe is dead. I guess I will need to get another battery and start her up next week for the first time when I move the rig to her new home in Columbia.

I need to order 2 transfer case mounting bolts, all new driveshaft bolts, and a high pressure steering hose from PSC. All stuff that my brother robbed from my truck when we did his engine swap.

I also ordered one of camcruisers's tubuler seat mount kits along with 2 new seats from Summit. I was going to build my own bracket for the seats, but I didn't want anything else to set me back. As long as the motor runs, it should be all downhill from here.

Also the tires pictured above have been sold, and she now sports new 35" KM2's with black rockkrawler rims and red painted Bobby Long Beadlocks.

Well, it looks like it's time to put an end to this part of the build as the engine is in, and running finally after a year.

Today was the first time I got to hear her run. I didn't even know if this engine was any good until today. Let's just say that I was pretty excited when she fired up.

I have to reroute the fuel lines and connect my throttle cable and I'll get a video up her running soon.

The exhaust sounded good, but surprisingly at idle to 2500 rpm it sounded like the old 2F. Maybe it will continue to roar at WOT where the 2F started to fall off.

I had been tinkering with it for 2 weeks trying to figure out what I was doing wrong, and would you know all it was was the dist. out 180 degrees. I flipped it and she fired right up.

Pics and video later this week. I'll even include a pic of my mug so Brock and BBQ will believe it.:)

Thanks again Mike for the carb and fuel pump. They work awesome!

Great just did the same to BT when it fired found a ruptured fuel line then the next time broke the fuel pump. So just getting it dialed in now. Congrats Jeremy!!

Congrats Doc on getting your running smoothly too. It seems like our rigs have paralleled each other for a few years now.:lol:

I am not making anymore plans out loud as it seems to always jinx me. Let's just say I hope to have it at the annual this year.

Anyone coming from the Lowcountry?

Jeremy

Here are some quick pics to prove I have the 40 in the new garage and not sitting in front of a double wide anymore.:) (inside joke)

I will have some sound bites hopefully tomorrow.

Damn straight, and Jeep flares too. The only 2 things worth salvaging on a TJ.

Some people would rather spend $400 on a Bestop rear seat (made for a Jeep) rather than put a TJ rear seat in for $40.

If you couldn't tell from the engine shot, I am not a purist. I care more about function than the name on it.

Plus the rear fenders are cut too. Perfectly straight, non rusted fender openings just hacked off with a plasma. Ouch! That had to hurt someones feelings.
