Ok I have a 66 FJ40 with the stock F engine minus the weber carburetor. I have a problem though when ever i quickly push the gas pedal down the engine will hesitate and almost dies but if I slowly push the gas pedal down there is absolutely no problem. So if anyone has any ideas of what can cause this please let me know it is starting to become very annoying and i want it fixed.

What carb are you running? Could be the accelarator pump sending too much fuel to the butterflies.

Fuel Filter

So if I am not getting enough fuel upon heavy acceleration could that be caused by a semi clogged fuel filter?????

Among other things...

A good sign of fuel starvation / lean mixture is spitting and popping back through the carb. This is because the air/fuel mix is too lean to ignite by the spark and when the exhaust valve opens, the mix ignites in the hot exhaust manifold and is still burning when the intake valve opens.

A Weber 32/36 is a bit on the small side for a F/2F. I see them on hot rodded 1.2 - 2 liter 4 bangers that are half the displacement.

Can anyone give me any other symptoms of fuel starvation/running lean. I need to know exactly how and what to look for. Are there any checks that I can do. I installed the carb and had very limited knowledge on how to tune it so if someone can give me a very detailed desciption on how to tune it I would appreciate it.

Something I forgot to mention earlier is that when accelerate quickly I blow a semi black liquid out my exhaust all over the nice shiny BMW beside me I am pretty sure that it is gas. That being said doesnt it sound more like it is running rich.

Yes, but you didn't tell us until now. Bad description = bad advice.

I apologize for my bad description of the problem. Can it running to rich cause the same problems that I am having. I dont know where to start should I adjust the air/fuel mixture and if that doesnt help should I consider having the carb re-jetted. Please keep in mind that when you are explaing something to me please be as thorough as possible because i am not as mechanically inclined as many on mud.
