Engine / trans oil leak help

Hello everyone I have an oil leak coming from where the engine and transmission mount together. Could it possibly be a rear main seal? I circled where the leak is coming from, I cleaned it off but there are usually a few drips hanging every time I look down there. Thanks for the help

That cover that you circled is called an inspection plate. You can remove it to see which side of the housing the fluid is running down to the weep hole. You won't really be able to get your head up there easily but can take a video or pictures with your phone and review them

Honestly I can’t tell for certain but I think it’s engine oil.

I just removed it and man you’re right it’s cramped in there lol. The leak is slow and even getting my phone in there I couldn’t point out a specific place where it might be coming from. However I do think it’s more likely to be engine oil rather than transmission fluid.

If engine oil it's likely rear main. But should check how clean or dirty your ATF is as well just to rule it out.

What engine oil do you have in it now? What has it been serviced with?

What are your oil pressure readings?

I’ve used synthetic valvoline for the past 20k miles with an oil change every 5k miles. Oil pressure is always at the halfway mark at start up and stabilizes at around the 1/4 mark until I turn it off. The ATF is dirty I recently had it at a shop to check the trans fluid.

I have a very slow leak in the same spot, possible it’s valve cover gaskets and is leaking down. The master tech I use just told
me to keep an eye on it and not to worry too much.

There are also 2 orings above the crank seal that can leak. Either way, if it is that or the crank seal, the transmission has to be pulled at minimum

Do you mean to say rear main seal replacement is necessary to pull transmission-?

Crank seal can be replaced easily with out pulling motor- however the Oil Pump Oring is more challenging- puling motor is one way to do it.

I use high mileage valvoline, also it has 223k miles on it. They did drain about 2 quarts or atf and put 2 quarts of new. The transmission wasn’t serviced by the past owner so I’m trying to catch up on everything. Everything on the car is great besides this leak.

Don’t see why not. Although one system at a time may rule out any separate issues

I was referring to the seals on the rear.
