Hello all

I have been losing approximately 2-3 drops of oil per month from the drain hole under the t-belt

I monitored it with a plastic cup to catch the oil to see how much it was leaking and it has been present as long as I have been aware since ownership
. I did do the t belt and water pump a year ago using the breaker bar on the crank bolt and cranking the car method which felt pretty brutal. I did not change the crank seal when I was there so the leak probably wasn’t there before hand

My question is:

Am I safe to put the car to work for 3 months solid towing 3.5 tonnes up and down mountains with a leak from potentially the crank seal?

Im worried because i had a Land Rover years ago where the crank seal popped out (after my own install) and I lost all oil whilst towing. Which would have been catastrophic if I wasn’t only doing a 5 minute journey and was lucky!

I was going to change the crank seal this month before my very busy work period. But I’ve had an unexpected commitment that has taken away the time I put aside

I’m wondering are these crank seals supposed known for being fine or high risk?

Thanks
Chris

2-3 drops per month? If only I was so lucky, you will be fine until you get around to changing it.
Ok thank you

Just wanted to make sure they aren’t known for popping out and losing all oil when under load

I’ll do it in winter when I’ve got the time now

Cheers

oil rots rubber, so if it's the front main seal, and it's getting oil on the timing belt you're on borrowed time, make a plan to replace the seal sooner than later
