Coming from the 60 side of things, engine oil did matter with those flat tappet style engines, but I do realize that the 2UZ is a bit of a different beast.
Rotella T6 has always been my go to seeing as it has high lubricant and protectants but at almost $30/gallon that gets me up there in price for oil changes. But then again, if I drive this truck as much as I did my beloved 60, I will MAYBE crest 5k miles in a year which means I can probably move to yearly oil changes.

Mobil1 5w30 Synthetic (not high mileage) and a genuine Toyota D3 filter have proven to be the absolute best for me. Tried 2 Mobil1 filters a while back and both were defective. Will never use non-OEM oil filters again. Just try not to use any of the "high mileage" type oils as they have additives that prevent you ever going back to non-high mileage oil types.

Castrol Edge, Pennzoil Platinum or Mobil1 are my go-to. Normally at least one is on a huge sale at the local parts store place. If you're doing normal street driving on a normal 2UZ I honestly don't think it matters much. Change the oil at an appropriate interval (6k-15k miles for good synthetic, 3-4k for dino blends) and use a good filter.

If you;re concerned about minor differences between brands, get yourself an oil analysis from Blackstone Labs. It's $38 with TBN and I do it every oil change. That's the only chance you have at actually determining if one is better than another for your engine.

A bit off subject, but Costco has cases (6qt) of Mobil 1 for around $26-28 when they run their $10 off discount. They generally run this discount once a quarter or so.
Yeah... comes down to a cost comparison because the Kirkland brand stuff is still pretty good (blended by Warren Distribution, same as Amazon, Wally SuperTech, etc.) so numbers are pretty quality. Plus it a 2 gallon pack (essentially 10qts.) where the Mobil 1 is only a 6qt. pack, so you are paying upwards of $60 for your oil change vs. the Kirkland stuff which will run you $30 without coupon ($25 with). Someone did the calculation already but it came out to almost ~$6/qt. for the Mobil vs. ~$3/qt. between the two.

Kirkland is $30 online/shipped and $25 in store pick up no coupon needed

Whoops, I missed the big red "2 pack" on the image. That is a good deal. I might give that a shot next oil change.

Thanks!
