Johnny i told mike i wanted to go! Haha roadtrip with 3 driving should b quick trip! If all works out

My bad, lol. I'll make fuel even cheaper! Good thing Betty has 4 seats :D

U have to travel thru areas that dont like guns. Regardless... better to be judged by 8 then carried by 6. My sig is with me always.

I would definitely check ahead, especially the People's Rep of MD. I'd be willing to bet a lot of money they don't recip anyone, NC for sure. I finally got out of there a year ago. To get a CCP, you either had to know (or pay) someone on the special State Police Board that doled out permits, or have been shot already. One guy sort of bragged on local AM station years ago that he couldn't get a permit even after being threatened. So he told the wife and kids to go to Chucky Cheese for the night and fired a couple .22 rounds into the front of his house as he drove by. He got it then.

But I digress...
Security situation shouldn't warrant too much worry about carrying a piece. The shelter I found in AC I picked partially bc it is functioning out of a church in nearby Egg Harbor temporarily. Should be no issues there. In my opinion, I was not focusing on NYC bc of potential issues. The situation there is still very raw. The NG can keep the situation there under control, but I would much rather wait on that until things cool a bit. People that are hurting badly sometimes try to hurt those that are helping.
Sarca contacted me last night; they are hoping to go toward the upcoming weekend(?), but not completely confirmed yet.
As a few others have mentioned also, I was thinking of going roughly the weekend before thanksgiving. Our church is going to mention the trip tomorrow, so I'm going to give a short period to respond. The need will still be there in a few weeks also.
That being said, if you are willing and able but timing us awkward, go when you're able. I would have no reservations about heading to south Jersey on my own. In fact, that was my plan until Johnny got a bright idea ;). My MO is always to drive in to an area like that in the morning and be gone long before dusk. In this case mainly to avoid debris lurking in the dark or perpetual wrong turns.
Too add to the confusion :), if anyone is so inclined a friend of mine in OH is planning to take items to the area in Queens/Rockaway that had the major fire. He's taking his Chevy dually and Heep trailer with stuff, most likely this coming weekend and wondered if anyone would be interested in that. If so, shoot me an email for details.
Ok, taking off from Atlanta. Feel free to email me if needed and I'll try to get a concise plan together when I finish my work this evening. Thanks all!
Matt

anyone from the charlotte area interested in doing this.. I could do it the weekend of the 17th

I'm in for the weekend of the 17th and Johnny and Adam can ride with me. Depending on how much stuff there is to bring I have a semi enclosed trailer. I also have a 6x10 utility trailer that somebody could tow but it's not enclosed at all. Let's do this!

I think you are on the right track, soon as the huz gets home Ill talk to him - I wont be able to make the trip, but as long as one of you rides with him?

I just read my earlier post and I want to clarify. By semi enclosed I mean it is a 6x14 sort of enclosed trailer. I may have made it sound like i have a big rig trailer. oops.

I can possibly get a 24 ft enclosed car trl. Its in havelock thoe.

Jeeez, there's a chance another coastal storm will hit NY/NJ midweek http://bcove.me/pr4q76dw

You guys are awesome- sounds like you've got a semi-truck's capacity of trucks and trailers lined up to go. I bet there's enough people who will want to fill them. Keep up the good work!

Seeing as how my wife is from NJ and has lots of friends & family who were affected by the storm, I'm interested in making the trip as well. I don't have an enclosed trailer, but would be willing to pull one with the Tundra. I'll spread the word at work to see if I can drum up some donations and/or get either a trailer or the company van to haul stuff up.

Have we set which weekend we're going for sure? Seems like more folks said they could go the weekend of the 17th. I had something planned for that weekend, so schedule-wise the weekend of the 10th would work better, but this is more important. If more folks wanna go the weekend of the 17th, I suppose that does give us extra time to work on logistics and accumulate donations.

Been talking to my buddies up in NYC / LI / Upstate NJ and they all say that Atlantic City is a warzone and that we shouldn't go near there. They all say that Ocean City would be a much better destination.

Define "warzone". If it's because they're more severely in need in the Atlantic City area, I hesitate to eliminate it.

warzones would make the trip more interesting... just saying

A couple of the cruiser heads up in NJ are cops, and they're saying that they'd be wary of taking one of their rigs through Atlantic City, even while carrying their firearm.

I agree with you though, if need is greater there, then that's where we should focus our efforts. More research, on my part, required...

So can we set this as a definite on the calendar for the weekend of the 17th, destination TBD?

I agree completely, and might add that it is always a warzone once you get more than a block off the boardwalk.

If some folks are nervous about going into hard hit areas, there are options like the one in AC I mentioned earlier where the drop off point is actually well outside the hard hit areas. It's completely understandable!
If some do and some don't, an option like that would be good: you could drop off items outside of town and those that would like a closer look can take a drive closer to the devastation while the rest get a bite to eat or something? Just a thought.

Something tells me their definition of war zone and mine might be different. But i understand it.

Darin i was thinking the same thing.... but some parts of ny and nj do look a 500lb went off.... but hopefully no one is running around and yelling allahu akbar!

johnny keep me posted

Just sent an email to our company's VP of Marketing to see if the company can help out. The Marketing VP is from NJ, and our company's President grew up in the Philly area, so hopefully they'll get involved. At the very least, I'll send out an email to all our employees to ask for donations.

I'm thinking I'll rent the biggest enclosed U-Haul trailer I can and see if I can't fill it and the Tundra as full as I can. Just need to work out the details of when we're leaving and such and we'll get this thing done.

Can we send money or have all the stores around y'all been cleaned out?

via mobile app.
