EGR pipe removal

Iv got a vac leak at my EGR and need to regasket.
I can loosen the big nut on the flex pipe, but then what? Do I need to hit it with a hammer or something? Mine dosent move. I figured I'd ask before I get out the sledge and torch.

my leak is at the intake manifold, i cant remove he EGR from the manifold with the lower pipe connected, the big nut comes off easily,
It looked as if with the nut off that i could just push down on the pipe and it would slide out, but mine does not wiggle. is it threaded in on the inside also?

If you are talking about the EGR/PCV fitting at the center of the manifold (I think you are) it has a section of pipe that goes up inside the intake manifold. It has to come straight out about three inches before it clears the manifold. I couldn't get the big nut off of mine so I ended up taking out the bolts that hold the EGR cooler to the block. Freeing that gave me enough wiggle room to pull the assembly loose from the manifold.

After fooling with this and then attempting to fix the leaky J pipe gasket on mine I decided to do a whole desmog.

My nut was no problem, used large American made channel locks. I pushed down on the flex hose with all I could by hand and it didn't budge. I also removed the 2 bolts from the flex pipe holder, that didn't help. I'd like to completely disassemble so I can degum everything and fix my vacuum leak at the same time.

Maybe it would help if you identified which nut your are trying to get off. The two fittings at the EGR cooler are "compression" style fittings with a ferrule that may be deformed around the tube. The fitting to the EGR valve looks like it is a flare stye fitting. That flex hose (#6) is not very flexible at all.

Thanks, the upper nut on #6 i removed, and am trying to separate it at that joint. should it pull out with enough force?

I unbolted the nut on the flex tube at the exhaust and removed the entire EGR assembly. After doing this I was able to twist the flex pipe and it came out easily enough. If it's in there really tight use some penetrating oil. I couldn't get it to budge while it was on the truck.

if you can apply enough heat to the joint w/o cooking the diaphragm, you'll get it to pop off; otherwise, try to twist after a good soak in pen.oil, as stated.

I was able to remove the lower nut from the manafold, and fish it all out. New homade gasket and one more vacuum leak fixed.
