Good morning everyone. Over the last couple months I've been getting all the "must have" items on my 40 worked out. Now I'm looking at "nice to haves" and a major one is EFI. What do you all think of EFI? Is it worth it? Pros/Cons? Which one (snipper/Howell/etc) have you all had the best experience(s) with?

I have 3FE EFI on my 2F, but getting parts is not easy anymore. Plus, it's way more complicated. I've been hearing good things about the Sniper on 22R engines. You might search over in the FJ40 forum.

Yeah. I've been reading in the 40 forum. Figured it might be nice to get some local opinions. Maybe one works better due to our higher elevation or some local expertise regarding install?

check out the local MS club thread area, there is a long thread there about EFI on stock 40/60 engine setup.

FYI

Is it too weird to slap in a 3.4v6 into a 40 series and have all that modern-ish EFI goodness with loads of power? Should I be ducking under the table for cover right now? :)

I actually have a 2JZ laying around and was thinking, "what if I dropped that in there?"

It definitely sounds cool; 2JZ in a 40. But, the 5-minutes of research I just did suggests the 2JZ's usable power is at too high of an RPM for a 40.

In regards to an earlier post by Elbert: sorry for my ignorance but, what's the "MS Club area"?

Been done, on a local truck. I have pics someplace.

Is this a good combo all be it, decently affordable for a 40 power upgrade?

The owner thought so. It was actually in a FJ45.

5VZ-FE: 183-190hp and 217-220lb-ft.
2F: 135hp and 200lb-ft.

Damn sexy!
I would guess it saves at least a couple hundred pounds of weight as well. It probably drives nicer than the old 2F. Certainly more revs available on the top end, but maybe not as much low-end torque. It’s an interesting concept.

I am guessing he’s talking about a Mississippi club? He’s not one of our guys. You can browse the clubhouses all over the country and search for your topic.

I did check out the "MS - Cottonland Cruisers" but wasn't able to find any "long thread about EFI on stock 40/60 engine setup".

Oh well.... Based on the turn this thread took, it sounds like the vote is "replace 2F with something else". :D

VORTEC!

I'm not disappointed with the 2F so probably not doing any swapping. Since it came from Texas I'm going to get the carb re-jetted and see where that takes me. Appointment at Skinners on Monday.

I'm looking at the list of fast vehicles you own and wondering how is a 2F keeping you satiated? 🤔

Have to appreciate it for what it is.

I don't think "satiated" is the right word. Humbled, maybe.
