Hi, wondering if anyone has tried one of these infrared heaters and what your opinion of them is?
Said to heat a 1000 square foot area for a 1500 watt draw.
An electric heater is an electric heater. There is really no way to make them more efficient. Whether you buy one at wal-mart or from this company it's gonna be 99+% efficient in turning electricity into heat.

x2. Scam for retirees and the uninformed. The EdenPure and knockoffs are just infrared heat lamps aimed at copper tube heat exchangers with a small fan to move air through the tubes. It's no better than any other electric heater, except the temp rise isn't as great so it's marginally safer around kids. It's still a rip off if it costs more than $50 (most I've seen are $200+), and no more efficient than the quartz infrared or electric strip heaters you can buy for $20 anywhere.
Everything I have read has been stated above......plus they are noted for wearing out early and then you have to ship the heavy bitch back. As stated, they are just fancy supplimental heat meant to be used sporadically to keep your furnace from running quite as much. Don't feel bad...my 82 year old mom thought it might be a miracle till I checked into it.
I've also seen the brand that claims is Amish built.......and then you find out the guts are manufact. in China.
They run full 2 page adds for them here in the local newspaper. They now have some horse about the Amish hit hard times too with pictures of down and out Amish, with no work . Its total BS as they are selling to the old people ,who still read newspapers .
I'm sure they are selling these things to the same old people who are sending money the "grandkid" on the phone stuck somewhere far away with no money and all the other scams that target the "Rubes" on the midway
only advantage I see to them is that they are a little safer to turn on and walk away from. I have 3 friends with them here in Durango that really like them. But for the money I have a $20 quartz space heater.
Hard to add much to a sequence of posts I 100% agree with but I'll add my experience. My in-laws decided they were a miracle too and bought one for us abruptly. It is one of the expensive Amish dealys and was near $400 with shipping. When it arrived (which was literally when I knew about it) I grabbed a utility bill and did the calculations on the BTUs vs the gas heat we have in the house. Giving it every assumption in its favor the best I came up with was it would be some 18 years to pay off if we had bought it. More acceptable assumptions and it would not pay off simply because in my area it's more efficient financially to use natural gas and this is likely true in your area too. $400 is simply a lot to save.
Now, if you literally closed off most of the rooms in your house and were sitting in one enclosed room heating with it you'd get somewhere financially because obviously you're letting some 75% of your house grow cold. We tried various little things like closing all the vents but frankly (and somewhat surprisingly) the passive air circulation of the house pretty much kept those rooms within a few degrees which told me I was essentially heating the whole house with the electric heater which is more expensive here than using gas.
So, gimmick targeting old and gullible folks and they're undoubtedly laughing all the way to the bank that they introduced this product during a down economy and sales are exceeding their wildest expectations.
