As it seems there is a shortage of early 40 tail light brackets pre 69 the small ones. Has anyone duplicated or knows anyone duplicating them at a reasonable price. If someone has a pair to donate to be replicated I'll pay shipping replicate your brackets send them back to you with a set of new ones for your trouble. I'll probably have a couple sets made in the case someone else runs into the same predicamate I'm in. I've been looking for sometime and had no such luck. Any help or advice is appreciated.:)

I have a 64 and I ran into the same problem. I bought some of the larger ones from cruiserparts.net, but they are in pretty bad shape. I would rather have the smaller brackets and get the small lights myself, more OEM. I am in on a pair if you make extra.

Thanks,
Michael

Thats my problem. I bought some brackets that were advertised to be pre 69 brackets and in fact are the 69 brackets which won't fit my new OEM lights. I'll be glad to help out if I can get a pair to copy. :)

pm me i have a set we might be able to work somthing out

orange45 had a set of these lamps and brackets in the for sale section a couple weeks back or so...

Just an FYI.

Thanks guys I appreciate it. I'm PM'ing eveyone that replied. guenther65 I got all my lights from Mark. Bib, Turn Signals, and rear tail light sets. His prices was good and I like dealing with Mark.

Put me in for two sets if you make them. Last year, I saw a set of NOS aftermarket CONFERR brackets that were made back in the 1960's to replace the thin ones from the 1963-1968 models. It looks like they were cut from 3/16" or 1/8" steel plate. They did not have the stamped L-shaped outer rim. That probably does not matter given that the metal was so much thicker. I can put one of mine on a flat bed scanner and get you a good trace on the brackets if that will help. It would not be too much trouble to CNC waterjet or plasma cut some out. If you insist on the stamping -- it will probably be much more expensive.

Thanks for the offer on the trace. If a pair don't materialize from one of the guys above I'll take you up on it. I plan to have them cut by plasma or waterjet and I think the 1/8 would be a good gauge to go with. Of course they won't be rolled at the ends like the originals, but I'll be happy :) .

All PM's sent no returns. :crybaby:

Larry, it's a sign!

This is YOUR chance to do something for the community. You should be the one to get the aftermarket brackets made. I just don't have the time to pursue it right now. But I'd be happy to sell yours on my website!

As I said before, I made mine from 3/16s aluminum, and I like the contrast. I have run them thru both Rubicon and Dusy Ershim. They have rock rash, but they have never bent. Finally broke a taillight lens this past September, but it was a drop that was also hard enough to bend a rear axle shaft!

IOW, IMO you should investigate making them in steel AND aluminum.;)

Best

Mark A.

Thanks Mark. I'm going to run with it as soon as I can get a set to use as a template. It seems like there are more folks like me running into the same trouble finding the brackets. I'd be happy to help my fellow cruiser clan where I can. I was thinking 3/16 and 1/8 steel, but I will also do a set in aluminum to see how they come out. I would have thought the aluminum wouldn't hold up to the abuse but your trail experience shows other wise. I'll keep you updated on the progress and send you a pair of each to see what you think.

I know someone w/ a BIG CNC machine in your club. ;)

I know, I know... we preferably need a template of the original!

Good luck in your hunt.
I'll keep my eyes open

LOL. I had you in mind first on the list. If I get my hands on a set I'm on my way. :D

Larry, I can certainly take a minute or two to trace the outlines of the braket and holes onto a paper and mail it to you, along with the measurement end to end, center to center etc. Just don't want to part with the actual bracket.

I understand. I'll know in a day or two if some of the good folks that chimed in above come through. If nothing comes of it I'll definitely take you up on it Mark. Thanks for the offer.

Are you going to reproduce these?

fwiw the outside dimensions of the bracket are the same as the earlier 63-65ish that use the smaller bib light style tail light. The only difference is the large hole for the wires and the 2 mounting holes in the later model. I have a bunch of brakets and lights if you need a set to reproduce from.... maybe let folks drill their own mounting holes or save a set or so for me so I can do this myself?

Yes, I am trying to get a set to reproduce. I'll do them in steel and aluminum. My first goal is replicate the 64 - 68 brackets. The reason being is I can't find anyone who sells them and from the feedback I've got I'm not the only one in need of them. I'll do enough to satisfy everyone interested and as Mark put it; its my way to contribute. I can surely leave a pair for you un-drilled. As soon as I get my hands on a set, or if a set don't materialze I'll use a pattern that some of the others volunteered to help with. I can work up an approximate cost on what a pair will cost, and can post pics. I'll start a list in this thread to make sure I cover everyone interested. As Mark offered I'll work with him after I've honored the list and he'll carry them for future reference.

Crushr volunteered to send me a set, if it don't work out I'll take you up on your set and send you a reproduced set undrilled for your help to get this started. Thanks.

Larry Landry
