Early Split TC on a H55?

That is a 60 cross-member attached to the tranny in the last picture and the 68x60 is an early bolt pattern for the 60.

Take one last picture of the main drive gear where it mates to the tranny, that will be the definitive answer the 40 gear is different.

But this most likely was in a 60 seeing the gear shifter and the cross member, I must have just missed that in the earlier pictures.

Going back to the picture Mark you are correct. it is a 60 trans.

And the rebuild kit is only$200 shipped.

Should I worry about the chipped gear teeth or the scoring on the case (as seen in the pics)?
There are about 6-8 of them... I imagine that when the oil slinger got torn off (how DOES that happen) it got mangled up in the gears?

I have only seen that once and it was when someone took the case apart and did not know how to put it back together and that my friend is what I think happened here.

You when you slip this case apart and get in a hurry putting it back together, and you dont put the idler gear in first before putting it in the rear half of the case it will not go buy the maind drive gear. Why you say because of the missing slinger  my thiought is they put it back together backwards and did not or could not figure it out and that is what happened to the slinger. ONE OF THE PO"S cut it off or just broke it off to get the TC back to gether and I also think that is what happened to the teeth on the gear.

The teeth on the gear is no problem it happens all the time. The corners of those gears are extremely fragile.

Rebuild it and run it

Oh and those marks are also from a PO or PO's mechanic weeble-wobbleing the front half of the case on. It should not leak and it will not make a difference to that bearing

Cam,
This will be a street driven truck... not just a trail truck. Will those broken teeth introduce noise? Should I grind the sharp edges off them before reassembly?

I thought the slinger looked torn off because of the abrasion lines on the broken metal... like a piece of steel the has been dragged over pavement in a crash... parallel deep gashes.

What if the bolt into the tranny (that is next to the idler shaft hole) backed out... would it hit the slinger?

Do you know if there is a Toyota "kit" or would I need to order all by part number...? I get a great GCLC club discount at the local dealer...

Yes that is possible now that u zoomed in on it that makes sense but not a magor factor.
And No I would not grind on the gear it will not make noise.

IPOR sells the whole kit for 189.95 and shipping to you should not be more than 10-15 bucks. I also can see if I can find the slinger for you.
