When you said early, I thought it was a 25 PTO. :D

I've got no idea what it would go for. Collector value is in the box, and I think John's right the value would drop once it was unpacked. Only real use I could see would be if you're doing a 100% concourse restoration............which most Cruiser projects will never see.

I wonder if it's the same one making the rounds.

If this is the same one we talked about it was on Ebay before but at over $1800 starting bid. I'm sure I was saying $900 would all it was worth one is got installed. Like Jim said it would have to be someone who would want it for a show vehicle that it would never be used to pay $1800 for a PTO. I paid $500 for my first PTO just because I had to have one. Since that one I haven't paid over half that for the ones I bought. The last one a few years ago I bought for $200, that included everthing even the lock that holds the shifter in place. The problem I have is you can't find the FJ25/1961 FJ40 front angle iron and roller for the winch. I'm trying to work a deal on another one that was disconnected when a V8 was installed and is just a weight on the front end now. This is a 1972 FJ40 not a FJ25. Never can have too many of this things.

you can still get NEW OEM pto's from toyota ...69-73 3 speeds are 1600.25 + shipping and the fj55 kit for 69-73 3 speeds are 1483.86 + shipping...so i would say that a complete set-up linkage and all pieces is worth $1484-$1601 + shipping :)

If Toyota still has these winchs available why can't you get parts from them or can You. SOR list a few parts but most no longer available. Maybe it's time to dig out the parts book and check on some of the parts number myself. Do you get these from a Toyota dealer? Seems funny you would have to pay shipping if picked from your local Toyota dealer.

I remember Downey Toyota sold the factory PTO winchs complete for $400 back in 1974. I also remember I couldn't afford $400 for a winch in 1974:frown:

Post up the part numbers for these kits.....

It was on ebay 2 years ago, he wanted $3,500 for it then. I came close to pulling the trigger then but could not cut the floor in my 79 resto.......I am bidding on it, but will not pay anything close to what he wants, but it just might sell.

04381-60011 made a mistake...the # is 04381-60040 for the 40 series and the 60020 is the 55 series as far as i know its for the 3 speed only on both. :)

they list the dealer price as about 600-700 $ higher....haven't tried a dealer to see what price they can get them if they can.

correction MSRP is only $400 higher not 600-700:

for the fj40:

Part Number Search Results : OEM Catalog
Item Number MSRP Core Price Price
0438160040 $2,000.31 $0.00 $1,600.25

P.T.O KIT

for the fj55:
Part Number Search Results : OEM Catalog
Item Number MSRP Core Price Price
0438160020 $1,854.83 $0.00 $1,483.86

P.T.O KIT

THAT sounds more like the one John was talking to me about!

but can you acctaully get these new PTO's, or is the part just showing up in the computer?

not that I don't beleive you, just would be very suprised if they were actaully sitting someplace ready to ship.

so far every thing that i had ordered from this place has been able to ship to me ...i get some things in 4-5 weeks...some much sooner...the stuff that takes a while are usually the odd ball stuff that i would never have thought would be stocked...anywere.

I dont have the $$$$ to try to buy these...or i would have had a go at it long ago...if they are aval...i bet it will be the 4-5 week slow boat :)

OK, so they are coming out of Japan or the CA non US wherehouse, makes sense.

I just spoke with my reliable Toyota parts dealer (John Mock - Toyota of Dallas), and he said the part number comes up on the screen, but it also says "Discontinued-Do not order", and this was effective in 1979. The price when discontinued also was $2000! So, I wouldn't hold your breath on ordering from Toyota. He's going to check with Japan to see if they have any in a warehouse, and if so, what the price would be, and he'll get back to me.

I ordered one. We'll see what comes. :D

Edit:

My order was rejected last night. I've now been rejected by two reliable parts sources. :frown:
