Hey folks,

My parents in law have this early model (1990) 80 series that has been sitting for 6 years. I'm not sure why it stopped running but when it was towed into their yard it also rolled into a wooden deck which left the front messed up as you can see. Hood is ok but the hood latch took a 2 by 4 and will need to be replaced and thats why the hood isn't closed.

Assuming it runs, is it worth fixing to sell it? I see on used car sales these can go for 5-10k depending on mileage.

There's a lot I don't know about this car and I can figure out more to post tomorrow, but assuming it runs and the mileage is 100k-200k range, what would you think one in this kind of rough condition is worth....and what would you do if you had it? Part out? Sell?

The wheels are newer than 1990. Let's see a picture of the engine. Its either an older 3f or a slightly newer 1FZ. That impacts the sale price. I'd spend at least a couple hundred dollars on it to figure out what is wrong with it. Parting a vehicle is a PITA unless you're equipped to disassemble it and put up with lots on no-shows and people wasting your time.

those fender flares also look to be 93-94

IMHO it's probably not worth paying a shop to fix the body then trying to sell it to make a profit. As already mentioned it may be worth it to have a mechanic do some basic checks to see why it won't start.

FWIW one of the most expensive reasons a 1FZFE won't run is if the head gasket blew (leaked internally) and worse if water/coolant then sat inside the engine. That can cause severe internal corrosion of the cylinder walls, bearings, etc and basically ruin the engine.
If fuel sat in the tank for six years, especially without a fuel stabilizer, that could rust the inside of the tank and pump, and clog up the fuel filter.
There is a drain plug on the bottom of the gas tank, you could try to drain any remaining fuel and check the condition, look for rust flakes, etc.
Will it turn over? (might be safer to remove the spark plugs first before cranking the engine to look inside each cylinder for water/corrosion)
What does the engine oil look like? Might help to drain the old oil, collect the oil, let it sit in a large container/jug to see if any water layers out.

If you can get it running, or not, post it up in the Classifieds Section with details and a lot more photos.

Post up more photos of the interior, engine bay, undercarriage.

YES! They're always worth getting up and running (*just maybe not worth it to you...).
