Hey folks.. newbie to the board here. I am a land surveyor, just recently purchased an '02 Toyota Land Cruiser with DVD Navigation. My question is... how can I "upgrade" the map displayed on my system? I find it to have limited information, such a shame to not have more data. What would be really COOl would be to have a topo map displayed underneath the roads! Any info, folks?
thx

well, obviously you can get a new DVD from Toy with newer and perhaps better info on streets and all. But I doubt that would include topo maps. If you find one, let me know, pls.
It always amazed me that the Nav sys on this superlative offroad vehicle does not offer an easy way to display and use GPS coordinates... What the ???

oh, and welcome to the board! Just remember to use the search feature a lot (or say you did) so as not to annoy the power that be!

I did do the search.. to no avail! By the way, does JVC make the entire system, including the non-user accessible dvd player under the passenger seat?

Toyota offers updates to the existing system. Your local dealer can obtain one for you. A new disc will cost about 250 dollars.

Before you spend the money, confirm that the new release is more current than the one you presently have.

No experience with the 100, but this is the problem I have with most 'stock' nav systems - very limited. If you want real ulitity, you would almost be better of rigging a computer to just use the screen and add an 'antenna only' GPS:

- Regular street-based navigation
- Topo-based navigation and GPS output
- OBD-II readouts, real time
- 'other' software as needed (email, etc)
- Jukebox for MP3s
- APRS for those Hams among us
- etc

This is my grand vision for laptop - it would be even batter with a built in screen. So, who will be the first manufacturer to offer this OEM?

Cheers, Hugh
