Last night right as it was about too dark to see I was finishing up in the garage and saw something bouncing around in the snow. I went to check it out and found this guy.

A wild redhead duck. We are a long way from any water so I figure the storm got him all befuzzled. Put him in a small animal cage to keep him from getting killed, but now don't know what to do with him. Should I just let him go?

Maybe call the Ranger Station if they are open. Otherwise, I'd go with your hunch and let Nature take its course.

344-2500- Wildlife Rescue of NM, I used to help out as a kid. You could probably take it down to the Rio Grande Nature Center, they open at 10. Just make sure you band it so when I bring it down later this year I know I got yours.

Have a pond near by?

If it is not injured, warm it up and let it go.

Thanks. He can't seem to fly. Tried letting him go and he just tries to run in the snow. Left him out for a bit and found him a little bit later huddled under a tree. He doesn't seem injured, he eats and poops. His wings look good and he can walk. The kids felt sorry for him and now he is with my daughter's ducks. If I go into town this week I will see if the Rio Grande Nature Center wants to deal with him.

Sometimes they can't get airborne off land.

Thanks. That is hopefully his problem. Just read that redhead ducks are diving ducks and they have smaller wings. They need a runway to take off.

ya know, can you use Techstream to help the little fellar re-calibrate its compass and do a zero point calibration while you have the OBD-II plug connected?

this reminds me......sometimes our heavy arese land pigs can't float in water and yet, we try and try and try ..... :hmm:

Did you try calling Game and Fish to see if they had any suggestions?

The colors don't seem to match but I saw this post on Facebook recently.

The little guy did get a name right away. Mr. Ducky will be heading to the bosque today. Thanks for the suggestions. I talked to Game and Fish yesterday and they are super busy right now. They said to just let him go near water.
