Very cool! we have similar double cabs at work, just not stretched. Was it damaged in the back? ex mines vehicle obviously? going to be a sweet truck!

i am looking at it again and i think i would have lengthened the frame a tad more and relocate the rear axle back more.
longer wheel base usually = better ride
with the axle back and a bit longer frame then you can get a more useful tray fitted as well as the load can be centered more over the axle.
i know you mentioned to carry bikes and such but you never know if you might need to carry a heavy load. it would be easy to relocate the axle back now vrs later.
but if you doubt you will be carrying a load then you will be fine.

i stuck a 8' bed on my FJ75 with the idea it would be more for looks than practical
but when i load the tray i have to make sure the load is towards the front or i get light steering situation:
small load 1.webp
small load 2.webp

wayne i fully understand where you are coming from.
the reason i picked this lenght is i currently have a extra cab 75x with a stretched chassis, i copied th lenght of this due to the current lenght.
you realy notice it when parking the vehicle, have to do a few more point turns to get in/out car parks, also i do a lot of hunting and know the turns my current ute does, i did not want it any longer than i have.
as for loads well its a V8 and will have chip and exhaust and the trailer its currently on is used for moving heavy loads.
i had a comprimise and thats the lenght i was happy with, i shall still get a 7 foor tray on it.

as with most conversions some suit some dont.
i will get a overall lenght for it over the weekend so you know the lenght and can look at it from there.

yes it was a miner, had no damage was a clean vehicle would have passed inspection for rego, i was afetr this vehicle for a while and right one came along so it got the grinder into it

happy to answer any more ????

I like it mate, especially using OEM parts to make it look stock. That's the sign of a good custom: it makes you turn your head and think 'What market is THAT Landcruiser from?'

I was a bit unsure if the wheelbase would be too long early on in your thread but when the pics from the side came up I think you've got the proportions pretty much spot-on. Aesthetically as well as practically speaking, seeing as it meets your needs.

Should be a good family rig.

Don''t you mean the other way around, most people chop beds and long rear overhang for looks and wheelability? I would think an 8' box would be more practicle for using to haul stuff, unless you mean practicality in wheelability?

nah, if you look at the pic, 5000 lbs of wood seems to lift the front a bit ...
nice light steering considering it is manual steering.

And it loved every lb of it! good haul, if you were doing that everyday some heavier springs would help lift the rear and put some more weight on the front.

it was for the "Ozzie" look, a tray back.
personally, a pickup with a short short box looks like s***. If i was to build a 75 wheel base for wheeling then i would take a 74 body and stretch it between the door and wheel well and install that onto the 75 chassis that was chopped behind the rear shackle mount.
at least then the "bed" is practical for use. no real rear end over hang but the break over would suck somewhat.

in the end the 8 ft bed ended up too long to haul s*** in the rear since the leverage lifts the front. i can either move the rear axle back and make it more balanced or chop the bed back down to 7 ft or install the factory 79 box or live with it. it is really practical for hauling long stuff as long as i pay attention to the center of the load point.

i like the looks of the OP final product and will probably try to match that idea one day using the old boxy front clip, 78 series 4 door compartment and a full sized 79 series box.
