So picked up a 77 FJ40 project
Short wife is having trouble safely using pedals with seat fully forward.
Looking for suggested mods to seat track
Ideally be able to move up at least 2” but still have throw on back end for me. Longer track build?

If you are okay with less leg room a shim from a steel box section in the from should work. I’ve only seen the rail extension kit which are the reverse of your problem. But given that you’ve still gotta hit the holes in the seat any solution to shorten leg room is going to be to move the mounting point of the rails forward.

I actually thought maybe I should cut out, let's say a 3" section of track and channel (lower portion) of a spare, cut existing track and weld in that section. It's not the seat and upper outer track a guy has to worry about. Then with the "longer" track, it would cantilever over the existing front supports.

might end up need a rail extension then like this and shim it forward.

Yeah I saw that. just flat bar stock that allows you to move it back but not really extending the existing assy. But for sure need to support the existing with something like that.
Thanks bud

1st, I'd try something like a boat cushion and put it behind her and the seat back. If she's OK with that, then you could have something made like it to match the interior that has straps to go over the seat back. It's worked for me in the past.

Yeah that might work temporarily.

I joked to her that we could always put blocks on the pedals like we did with the grain trucks for her...haha

Thanks

Dang my 5' ex wife could easily drive my 40 with the seat fully forward in my 76. Me being 6' was a bit more uncomfortable so I did the extension trick using flat plate steel and that worked well for me. Perhaps a great pair of platform boots for your woman are in your future? 😃😃😃

My first wife was only 5'-1" and she didn't have any problem driving my 78 FJ40. For me it has always been to close especially the gas pedal with the seat as far back as it would go.

When I get to the interior on the restoration I am moving the seat back as far as I can. The ex will not be driving it anyway.

I'm not fond of these. Had a set since the "Toyotas R Us" days. The short left side piece tends to pry the front left seat post apart. Pops the weld nut right through the top if you're heavy in the seat. I use a piece of bar stock that runs the full length between the front and rear mount on the left side. The stronger aftermarket left front seat posts might not be affected. No reason solid flat stock wouldn't work for cantilevering the seat position forward rather than further back.

This ⬆︎

The seat depth might end up a little short but if you don't mention it she might not notice. And tell her to strap on the clodhoppers.

On my 72 the rear of seat frame bar fits into a pin socket on each side, and at the front it is held down by 2 buckles. I would make like say two 4" extension for the rear and weld in a new bar across the front 4" back for the buckles to engage at the front. Easy in and out. You might need longer seat belts.
