Since I moved my tranny up 3", AND that my project is nicknamed murphy's law, it seems inconceivable to me that this drive shaft that I randomly bought on ebay would be a perfect fit.

From what I've read, there should be about 1" of travel?? If you look at the painted portion of this shaft, when installed, it looks to be just right to me....

Please let me know if I'm right or wrong.

Thanks,

Two things:

There may be more travel there than the lack-of-paint shows. That may only be where the previous rig's flex ran out.

You should be able to figure out approximately where your rear end will end up worst case and see what you think. This may be when the right rear tire is lifted to the extent of its travel with a forklift or engine hoist.

That doesn't look too bad to me. It looks to have the splines almost showing, right? But, you still have a bare frame. Once you put some weight on there, it will compress the springs and driveshaft a bit. Should be about perfect then. Nice!

Thanks man! From most of the pictures I've seen, it looks pretty good..still a frame yes...the paint isn't really the total compression point. If you look closely, it actually goes past the paint fully compressed. No spline showing at all, but it has to be close.

I have no way to add any significant weight to it at this point. If it compresses significantly when I get the tub and top on, I can always run it down to the drive shaft shop. I will definitely have to have the front one redone.

You'll be interested to know that I have actually decided to go with the Aqualu tub. I waffled back and forth because of price, but it just makes more sense to me for a variety of reasons...making nice progress though!

It will be interesting to see what happens when the rig is complete, but it looks okay. I don't make any decisions about driveline lengths until the complete rig is sitting on the ground, particularly on rigs with a front shackle reversal since the driveline moves TOWARDS the transfer case during compression.

great advice! I will certainly wait to have the front one done..I just hitched this one up to support the T-case, and couldn't believe how well it fit given all the variables.

I used to live in Redding..up on Twin View Blvd..right off the highway..I have to say I miss the mountain and the lake!

I was born in Florida (Ft. Walton Beach) but love the Redding area for the reasons you listed. California, on the other hand, is questionable. Retirement here is not an option! Good Luck.

We love Jacksonville...Florida is questionable..Great place to retire..just no hills. :)
