thanks man. i think i read here guys in the south put heavier weight oil in the fan clutch and get better results. i'll search. but i think (?) it's not a bad time to put one in...?
I’ve never once needed to remove the fan blades or shroud. All of the belt replacement can be done by just loosening the idlers/adjustment blocks. Just weave the belts around the blades. Crazy easy once you’ve done it correctly the first time.
I also don’t keep old belts as spares. I keep new belts as spares. Just cut the old belts off and safe 15 mins.
i think this is it from from what another inmate said:
1 belt on outside groove of crank pulley on AC compressor..
2 belts on 2 inside grooves on crank pulley for Water pump and on crank pulley for Fan Clutch.
2 belts on 2 inside grooves on crank pulley for Alternator.
2 belts on 2 inside grooves on crank pulley for Guide Pulley and Idler Pulley.
3 belts on Crank pulley.
but i guess people say to pull the "tensioner pulley" on the right because it doesn't do anything or something like that?
Uh...simplified?
1 belt on outside groove of crank pulley on AC compressor
2 belts on 2 inside grooves on crank pulley for Alternator [and fan/water pump pulley]
The idler pulley is called such because it has no range of adjustment. It is there to lessen the reactive motion of the belts to crank pulley torque or brake in a low-maintenance environment. Taut belts and regular maintenance thereof can eliminate its necessity. (tho keeping it lessens the need for such strict regular maintenance)
A toss up indeed.
Really depends if you're exploring the high plains of Africa or DD inside 285 in ATL.
Some could argue same/same.
what's your point about the water pump? that you don't have to remove the fan if you're taking off the water pump and putting a new one in? and you don't have to remove the fan anyway?
not sure about over thinking but i think you can only say that after you've done something to someone that hasn't.
in any case there is only one belt on there now.
My point is you have to take the fan off to do the water pump. So people saying you don't have to take the fan off to change the belts are missing that you're replacing the water pump.
The blue fan is the standard replacement.
I said you're overthinking it because you overcomplicate about every thread I've seen you post. Don't make this one harder than it is. The whole process of water pump and belts shouldn't take you more than an hour. The hardest part is manipulating the alternator, IMO.
If you're not replacing the water pump then just do the belts. Nothing else has to come off. If you're doing the water pump then you might as well take the fan and shroud off as the very first thing because that will make the whole job easier.
