Question about the Drive Belt Idler Pulley. One closest to the alternator. I have just noticed that it isn't spinning when the engine is running. Is it safe to say that by replacing / and / or tightening the adjustment that it would then spin and continue as normal (Hope).

So I will be having or replacing my belts in a day or so. Should my expectation be that the Drive Belt Idler Pulley spin? Would explain a little noise from under the hood esp. in wet weather.

I have read the forum and believe the rest is there, but wanted an opinion on any other gotchas.

So your saying its completely siezed? If that's true, I wouldn't expect the belt to last more than a couple of minutes at best. You would also smell burning rubber. Pull the belt off and spin the pulley and see where your at. In short, yes, you should expect the pulley to spin. Thats not unreasonable:D

It just barely touches the belts on mine, shure its only there to take any whip out the belts, you should be able to just spin it by hand without loosening the belts

that idler just barely comes in contact with the belts but it should do so with enough force for it to spin. I replaced mine and the bearing in side was shot. It still spinned but had enough play in it to not fully contact the belts.

So far I have tightened the belts a little using the screw adjustment. The idler is now spinning, but making a crunchy noise. Sounds like I need to replace or rebuild it. It does spin fairly good, but the noise doesn't sound promising. Some backyard fun. Any thing about replacing that I should be aware of. Parts falling out, or is it as simple as it looks?

It's simple to do and not that expensive If you are a "smart shopper" ;)

some are simpler than others

I think they locktited (or maybe welded) my pulley bolt to the block......

Binished it up this afternoon. Oh to have that quiet engine again (quiet to me ;p) It was easier than eating a pie. I actually think I payed a little more than I could have on the pulley itself but I now don't have to worry about hitting the road tomorrow for my 8 day adventure through colorado :)

I'm embarrased to say I'm having a hard time replacing my belts. I can't get the A/C belt on my 97 to loose so I can get the other belts on. I've been trying to break the tensioner pulley loose but it won't break free. Is it regular or reverse thread? Are you able to replace the two belts for the alternator and water pump without removeing the A/C belt?

had the same thing a while back, i took appart the pulley and replaced the bearing for 14 bucks or so, dont know what the replacement pulley cost, but i know how to take things appart :D, drilled out the rivets and put hilocks back in there place (didnt want to make a lot of noise w/ the rivet gun), i have noticed that the cover leaked a tad more than the seap that i get with the pulley bolt out.
