Just ordered a set of the Dobinsons drawers that should be here in about a week or so. I have been thinking about some mods for the drawer and wanted to solicit feedback and ideas from the community. The current ideas are:

Left wing interior: sPod, 2nd battery (SFF solar type) Battery controller; 1000w inverter

Left wing face: 3 gang 12v faceplate with dual QC3.0 USB, USB-C, voltage meter and control switch; 2 gang 110v outlet pigtailed to 1000w inverter; pc fan for cooling.

This would allow me to run all of my exterior lights into the back and provide lots of power options for camping right at the tailgate.

Right wing interior: ARB compressor; Icom 2730 or 5100 radio, battery chargers for impact wrench, Hand Held Radios; NOCO Jumper

Right wing Face: pc fan for cooling

The main reason I want all of the electronic wired into the rear is for greater flexibility in making changes over time and not filling up the engine compartment with equipment that could make repairs more difficult. If my thinking is misguided, please offer up reasons and alternatives. Looking forward to your feedback as I am incredibly excited about the drawers and this seems like a productive way of passing the time while waiting for their arrival.

Thanks,

Matt

Curious where'd you order from? I forgot Dobinsons made drawers. I don't see any specific fit kit, wing, or price info on the Dobinsons website

Interestingly, this just popped up in my YouTube feed:

GREAT VIDEOS!!! I think I will go with a Redarc Dual Input DC-DC Charger for battery management in the left wing and maybe look at mounting a 100ah second battery somewhere else. I really like the having the solar input for my Renogy 100w solar suitcase.

Another option, although only for lead acid batteries (not for lithium): D250SA

Keep in mind that for the dual source chargers, you need to connect an ignition source if you have a smart alternator. I’m pretty sure this applies to MY 2016+. Finding an easy to access ignition source in the rear might be a challenge (I don’t know for sure as I’m still learning).

Most excellent video series. It's absolutely on point and explains it in a way that's easy to understand. It echos a lot of what I've been trying to explain for the past few years on these boards with people trying to install dual batts in the way they've been installed prior to smart compensating alternators.

I've taken the easy way out and just use a Goal Zero 1000 lithium battery with a 12V 10amp Yeti Car Charger adapter.

I had Dobinsons drawers in my 4runner and really liked them. I traded the 4Runner for a Land Cruiser and now have them sitting in my garage debating whether or not to install them in the new vehicle.
