I sure would like to see an actual picture of a working throttle linkage using only the parts included in the Downey kit.

This is about as far as I got before I s*** canned the whole thing.

This way works so much better. And best of all the bracket was made from the existing TBI bracket all I did was cut off an ear and drill a hole. This way you get to use the cam on the later TBI's. Makes for a lot better and easier to use gas pedal. Also the cable needs to be maybe 18 inches max.

That being said Downey designed the brackets to really work for the early TB's. The one's with the single lever out the side. Still I couldn't see how it would work well.

what about heat insulation?

do not mean to hijack this thread but with the carb adapter sitting right on the manifold won't the TBI assembly get nice and toasty? I have a similar set up for my Weber and I have resorted to keeping the underhood fan on whenever the engine is running...

Throttle cable conversion, nice. I have been contemplating this for quite some time. Would it work with the carb or is it designed to only work with the TB?

Personally I would have put the original stock plastic carb spacer under that adapter after I had ground out the lip on one side and plugged any vacuum holes that I didn't need with epoxy. I am sure Marshall has a good reason for doing things the way he did them.

Yeah, Marshall's does run great and he is the ONLY reason mine runs at all. My point of this thread is the throttle bracket for the fancy dancy laser cut plate from Downey(spoken with lots of ooooh's and ahhh's) is a POS and until I see an actual working throttle cable using only Downey parts I will remain convinced that it cannot be done.

While I am not a spokesperson or otherwise a representative of Downey, the kit that Downey sells for the TBI didn’t say anything about not needing to adapt or fabricate something for the throttle linkage. At least nothing that I have read. To me it just offered a plate to give me a platform to start with.

I used their plate and with it adapted a clamp standoff for my hand throttle which is nothing more than a bicycle shifting cable terminated on the gear shift shaft. Also the regular foot throttle, I used the bracket that was used on the old carburetor linkage which bolted up on the intake manifold.

I was too cheap to buy an air cleaner for the TBI, so I just used two 12inch pizza pans at $2.50 each, and a sight mod with a pair or tin snips.

That is soooo ghetto fabulous. I am very envious. :) Just in case you want something that looks a bit more polished that is also dirt cheap, take a look at the end of my build thread.

Heat really doesn't effect a TBI system. With the amount of fuel flowing into the TB there is no way a TBI unit could overheat on our applications. It would have to start melting before that happened. The fuel flow also provides plenty of cooling also. A TB is unlike a carb system. It has a massive amount of fuel flowing through it.

TB only.

:popcorn:What still no pic's of an actual working throttle linkage????? Shocking!! I mean Downey invented Land Cruiser fuel injection.
