Going to be dove-tailing the rear of my 80 in the new few weeks, and eventually I want to do the front. Just looking for pictures of the process or results to help me get a plan together. If anyone have doved (particularly the front) an 80, or really any Toyota, I d appreciate any pictures, thoughts, or advice on the process. I will be searching as well. Thank you.

Here is the patient:

I'm doing a similar build to the set up you have now. I love the minimalist approach. I've used the money I've made selling parts I don't need to get cool stuff. How drastic are you going?

Not sure yet. Probably dove the rear to frame width, and do the same for the front. But I usually dont have a solid plan until I start cutting. You cant see in the pic but I smashed the drivers side fender pretty good. Thats why this is going to happen.

I'm with you on that. I took off my outer fenders, cut the lip and folded it up around the inner fender, and next up are tube fenders. It's on hold for a little while because my wife's truck needed some attention. You have a bender? There are some pics in this thread.

Unless you are or know a good body filler man... there's gonna be places that look like crap. I wheel mine, hard, so i didn't worry with it. I tacked where i could and rode out. She Dirty.

Last weekend I lost a front inner fender. So I moved the battery inside behind the seats. And still figuring the intake out... mines a 91 so battery is on the passenger side. (I bounce hard on rocks.... it's a southern thing)
A solid front dove IMO will require you to move the radiator to the back as well... but to me, that would be kinda easy if you are fab enough to dove the dang thing!
I open the hood all the time and stare for a long time at doving.... I see no reason why it can't be done, and now that all my lights have been busted out, maybe i will.

DO IT! I'll follow your leaad!

Thinking about it during lunch.. you do realize... on an 80... there's over 12" per side to loose in the outer fenders before you even get into the engine bay... so you have all kinds of options. which is why i wheeled Lorena without outer fenders for a longtime...
a reference pic of the actual difference of a fender removal "dove"

You going to have to give some consideration to your intake too. I've debated an in cab "snorkel". I listened to the intake noise and it's not that bad. Should easily be drowned out by my exhaust.
On the other side, there is a mess of junk to be moved. Not sure what is to be gained from doing a dove when you gain so much from taking the fenders off. It is surprising how much room you gain.

Yeah. I dont NEED to dove it. I could probably get by with just the fender removal. But that just looks unfinished to me, and Id like to make it look half way decent. Plus this just looks cool:
