fzj65? Here's my build thread

Alright, so it's been a dream for a while. I'm in the beginning stages of this, but I got a 60 grille and headlight doors, threw in some hella 700ff lights, hung it all long enough to take picture before I take it off, brace it more add some fiberglass so it looks smooth and good and paint it. Teaser, because this is going to take a while, but tube fenders are on their way!

I just like the 60 style, by I like the 80 coils and lockers, and I don't have the time or money to do a full on body swap with my daily driver. So... This seemed like my best bet. The grille and doors were the perfect length with the blinkers trimmed off.
I plastic welded them all together, so it's a one piece grille now, but I think fiberglass would have been a better option from the start. So far, I've made enough money selling my old parts to get all this stuff, some tools and to relocate my AC dryer.

That's really interesting. Looks like it's a pretty good fit, too. I'm really curious to see how the light output is, I'm very underwhelmed with the stock 80, but haven't been all that impressed with most 60's either.

Once you're done you should do a step by step write up.

That's the plan. After looking at it, I think it's going to look funny with the curve in the doors and the tube fenders... So tube doors are going to be one their way. It's really been more time consuming than hard to do. Light output is okay, I'm trying to keep it to the budget of how much I make from selling the stock parts.

The "5" would indicate either a troop carrier or a pick up version.

You should call it an FZJ60L.

you've got a cool project going on. definitely looking forward to seeing the finished product. I instantly love the way the round eyes look on the truck. i know you are doing this on a budget but a projector retrofit would be smokin...

Very interested in how this turns out! When it came down to buying a Wagon, I was split between the 60 and 80 series.

No regrets on the 97, but damn the 60 series front end is secksy!

I was wondering the same thing, I double checked the first post to make sure he was putting a 60, not 55 grille up front....

if the 5 designates troop carrier or pick up does that mean the pig (with only 1 back seat right??) is a troop carrier? or just the exception to the rule??

The 5 is for the tube fenders styled like a 55 and the fact that it will have a shorted bed like a 45 when it gets chopped. That's a while off though. The 80 has a butt like J-Lo and it needs to be taken care of. Once the front is exactly where I want it I'll start on the back.
The AC dryer is getting moved this week too!!!! I've been scared to hit it on a rock because it was put in the dumbest place stock. It will be behind the battery like my 91.

If you are just putting an FJ60 front grille, that's not a "FZJ65"

OP stated he was doing more than the grill... he derived the 5 from the 55 like fenders and the 45-like bed that are to come.
