Hello again everyone!

I'm not trying to start yet another stereo install thread, I have read most everyone on here.

I'm wondering if anyone in the Austin, TX area have had one installed, and would recommend someone. I have the 99' with the Nakamichi.

I have called around to like 5 shops, and everyone tells me something different. I try to explain to them what I have learned here, about the install, but they all just repeat themselves. Quotes are all over the place, and they all tell me something different about the install process, which makes me not want to use them.

In hoping someone on has already used someone in the Austin area, and that person will know what to do, making the install pretty straightforward.

Thanks in advance for all the help!!

Is this wiring harness what you mean? I still would love to find someon, in Austin, who can do it easily. I have read that lots of people have issues with speaker humming, poor antenna reception, etc. I'm sure I would mess it up, and encounter the same issues.

I can do home theater stuff easily, I wish the car was the same. I know it seems like simply matching up wires, but for whatever the reason my brain has a hard time comprehending it all.

Who have you called? Custom Car Stereo? This is not a complicated install for most shops.

I sent to Custom Sounds, and called a few places. Custom Sounds couldn't give me a straight answer, kept giving me different prices, different info, etc.

A few local people in CL seem to know more about it, and I think I'll hire one of them....but I was hoping someone on here has used someone before, and could make a recommendation.

the only "issue" that requires any thought at all for me was the slight sanding /filing of the stock face plate in the corners to make it more of a true 90 degrees vs rounded... if i remember right I had to use a file and then a razor knife to slightly increase the size of the hole... now I just installed a made in china gps/stereo/bluetooth/touchscreen system.... but I have enjoyed it everyday total was less than $150 installed I think... best buy actually has a pretty good install dept.

I don't think that will work for the OP - he stated that he had the Nak system - I was under the impression the off-the-shelf wiring harnesses only worked for the LC system..

That is what I thought, as well. I read some people getting 20 pin Toyota connectors, and making those work, but I have not heard of any off the shelf system working, without first splicing some wires.

Has anyone used Best Buy for their 99' with the Nakamichi?

Proof that one the web is a forum for everything..

This is a Pioneer car forum, but I'm sure other brands have something similar.

Ps: for some reason our Iphones will not connect wirelessly to the AVIC Z-2 unit and apparently is a bunch of possible culprits..

LX470 Stereo Upgrade with Nakamichi

even better dont have to buy the wiring kit save 15$

I have read that thread, several times. I wish my brain could understand everything he did, as it was well-written, but I cannot follow the wiring. I can install home theater stuff, build a PC, but the wiring for the harnesses causes my brain to spin. Maybe it is because I have never watched someone do it, it probably is much easier once seeing it done.

Every shop I have called has quoted over $200 just to install the double din, and that does not include any dash trim kit. Seems high to me.

Watched some stereo install videos, it is all making more sense, now. I may give it a go. I will update, if/when I do.

In that install thread, he was able to use the factory amp, correct? I stopped by an install shop, and he was pretty adamant that he would have to bypass the amp. Did that install thread just use the head unit for the amp?

Hey I just installed a double din and reverse camera on my 2000 LX w/ Nakamichi. Your more than welcome to PM me for any details about it. I just did this last week so its still fresh in my head. I live in south austin if you need any help. You dont really need any tools either. Its prertty straightforward. Dont waste your money on an install shop!
