My 96 KZJ70 (LHD) is getting delivered on Monday. Can’t wait. I am looking to install a double din stereo and wondering where I can find a double din dash to accommodate the new stereo. I would like to try to avoid cutting the original. Any ideas?
Thanks in advance.

Do you have pictures of what’s in it now? I was able to use the factory stereo brackets that were in mine to mount a double din unit.

easy peasy, its a factory part from other models, order one up from your preferred parts supplier and your in buisiness.

I have seen a few parts retailers after doing some digging on ih8mud that have the double din dash piece but it doesn’t show it’s compatible with the specific KZJ70 model, rather a few other LC models. Very new to LC ownership but I believe the dash should be the same on the KZJ70, 73,78 for that year. Are there any other models/years that would have an identical dash (and replacement parts) as the 96 KZJ70?
Appreciate your time.

Your dash looks just like many (if not most all) pre-2006 70 series, not just the KZJs. Here is the double din piece for my dash, a 1998 FZJ70 (pic with part removed also included below), with measurements (ignore the tenths measurement on my tape measure). It is almost certain to fit yours, too.

PN is 55413-90K00, widely available new from places like yoshiparts, partsouq, megazip, amayama, etc. as well as I am sure others.

You may also want to check how your current radio is mounted in the double din bay, behind the plastic fascia. If you don't have them, you may also want to pick up the left and right radio brackets, which again, are almost certainly 86212-90K00 and 86211-90K00, and the screws 90149-50032.

Toyodiy.com has a very helpful feature where you can plug in a PN, and see what vehicles it was used on. You will find there is quite a lot of part commonality across land cruiser models, and even if something did not come from the factory on your particular frame number, it’s possible if not likely that other PNs will bolt right on. Just do your research.

Quick question. What wiring harness did you use? ChatGPT says a “Toyota 10 + 6 Pin to ISO Adapter” looks like they are pretty cheap on Amazon. Have you had any issues with your wiring harness?

Redline has ya covered, but for your future reference ALL the narrow nose cruisers share the same parts so long as they look the same.
that double vs single din still look the same and thats how Toyota did it, if the part looks the same it will interchange universally in my experience

but you do need to watch some of the little details, for example, look at your steering column cover, there are only two versions of it, a rocker or push button 4way switch. so, ANY cover will interchange so long as it looks the same, make sense?

you'll pick it up pretty quick

The PO hacked the harness off from mine, and as I am doing a complete interior gut and refit, I haven’t had the chance to install the stereo yet, but might not bother with a harness since I’m using external amplification and I’ll just need a few connections like constant 12v, ground, and accessories. However, I think a lot of folks use the Metra 70-1761. If you search the forum for “metra harness” you’ll see.

This is good information to know. I honestly can not wait for it to arrive. It’s getting shipped from Spain and arriving today. Two things I am going to change is the stereo receiver and steering wheel. Unfortunately I will need to ship it back to the states and store it for a few years as I am heading to Japan next year. Who knows, maybe we will bring back a RHD Japanese Spec KZJ78??. It would be for my wife of course……;)

Just throwing it out there that there are a lot of really nice “floating” displays that use a single DIN space now. Most are adjustable and could fit nicely. Some even have volume knobs.

I have toyed around with that idea and it may still be an option. I just really like the flush clean look of a double din. Just need to find one with actual volume jobs.

Yeah i was doing some digging yesterday and that’s what I came up with as well. Not too expensive, $8 bucks on amazon shipped. Thanks for the help.

I have the flush mount Sony XAV -AX1000 and love it.

I really like that. Where did you purchase from? Did you need an antenna adapter? If so which one.
It’s in my 80. Don’t remember needing an antenna adapter. Don’t remember where I bought it either. Probably SonicElectonix though.
