Has anyone had experience replacing their door speaker grill cloth with material that is the same or close to OEM?

When I installed the MB Quarts I took the grills off and hosed them out. They are not perfect, but they are a lot better than before.

If yours are torn, that's another story.

Good luck

The speaker cloth and plastic frame backing are available from Toyota. I just ordered a couple to replace the ripped fronts...they're in the garage waiting for me ;).

spressomon...how muh did it cost you...and what do u mean by plastic frame backing??

The cloth is stretched across a plastic frame/grille that snaps into the opening on the door panel.

Thanks so much - thought it was an intregal part of the door panel.

I thought you had to remove the speaker cover from the INSIDE (i.e., remove the door panel) on the LX?

I don't know about the LX but you need to remove the door panel to gain access to the screws that hold the speaker 'grill' in place on the LC.

You do. I think they snap/screw in, but they are removable.

FWIW-getting the door panel off is a PITA. That little clip under the arm rest cover is a beotch.

Actually, the door panel does not have to be removed to replace the speaker grill.

Bought a replacement grill from Toyota ($41). By removing the 4 screws along the bottom edge of the panel, the 3 push in clips and the front/lower capped screw, there is enough room to gain access to the back of the speaker grill. It is secured with 4 Phillips screws (2 of which are longer than the other 2). It's a tight fit (at least with my big hands) but the job can be done with a stubby Phillips. Be careful not to damage the speaker itself.

Different part numbers, but they were the same for the earlier LX's. It only takes a few minutes to pop the door panels. That's probably the quickest way to find out.

Bonus points for searching and digging up an 8-year-old thread, though.

Does anybody have the part numbers for the speaker frame and cloth from Toyota? I would be amazed if it was still available but figured it was worth a shot. Would love to be able to replace the fabric with something OEM.

There is no "snap." :-( I wish there was because then you could easily access the speakers. I thought about replacing the screws with magnets on mine while I had the interior door trim off, but I didn't have enough magnets laying around. The speaker covers are actually held on from 4 screws on the inside of the door panel. The cloth cover is stretched and glued on to the plastic. Be careful while cleaning it. My cloth covers came off while I was wiping them with a damp cloth. I had to glue them back on.

Removing the door interior trim is really straight forward. The key to getting the clip out on the door handle is to undo the clips on the hinge side with a small flat head screw driver first, then slide it out towards the back of the truck. Do the opposite to put it back on.

$10 of speaker cloth from ebay (many colors available), quick drying super glue or 1 minute epoxy, & 2-3 hours to remove the door panels, strip the old cloth from the plastic speaker frames and re-trim /glue all 4 speaker covers in color of choice = savings of over $100.

Not OEM, but really close in color & texture. Get the thickest / heaviest weight speaker cloth you can find to mimic OEM style - thinner cloth will allow the framework to show through.

You could always paint them. Looks cleaner IMO.
