Anyone ever thought about cutting like 5 or 6 inches off the bottom of the doors? You could then cut a very decent amount of body off from under the door, and protect the remaining body with custom rocker rails. Also, if you have any interest of removing the front doors, you'd have a lip on the bottom like e heap so your things wouldnt fall out. Ideas?

interesting idea... I've seen alot of fullsize chevy guys "boatside" their doors. I'll see if I can dig up some pics.

There's not much to cut before you get to the level of the floor of the vehicle. Replacing the rockers with square steel tube and then maybe, what another 2-3" of the doors would be about all you can do. You're now up above the frame rails... Doesn't make much sense if you ask me. Are your coils not providing the lift you wanted?

No, the coils are working great, I really need to update my build thread.
I just think that most of us lift these trucks way to high, rather i think we should keep them low and clearance all the low hanging body. Its just an idea.

I'd love to lower my 62 5" and get the travel and tire clearance I have. Nature and trail abuse is slowly working at your plan. In my case I like the look but the amount of work it would take to do that to my 62 would equal that of a tube rig and be lower in satisfaction.

Unless you can get the b-pillar modded properly, I see that as the biggest obstacle. Trimming the rockers just to the bottoms of the doors will get ya 3-4" max. As far as the point, well, when wheeling rocks or heavily varied terrain, one usually places the tires on the highest points of the obstacle ( top of rock, for instance). If if the rockers were tall enough, this high point in the obstacle could remain outboard of the framerail as the truck advances to where the rear tire hits the obstacle. It's moot when negotiating a truck-width ledge, but just the ticket in the rocks.
A true boatside of an otherwise full-bodied 4-door rig would be extra difficult due to the b-pillar. It's been done, though.

I chopped my rockers and made 2x4 sliders with 2 in out rigers and I rarely hit them woth a stock spring SOA and 38s I would smash stock one but mostly I tap the out rigers

I admire that. I actually did something similar without the full boatside on a scout that I had. I cut off the rocker panels and welded in square tubing to use as rock sliders. I never got a chance to test them as it caught on fire while we were replacing the floors (we still don't know what happened), but they looked good, sorry no pics of the scout with sliders.

I just chopped em but I knew the top was comin off so I want worryed about seelin it ... the rear rockera are open too there is the floor you see there

there are some thicker supports but nothing too earth shaking. Draw a line and hack away...

Slick sliders Brokenparts. Do you have any pictures after the cut when it's wide open? Just curious what's hiding.

I like that look. I'm pretty sure I want to mod it this way. By the time I'm done with this rig no one will ever want to buy it.

sorry I dont... pictures were an afterthought. I did not close mine up although I did spray some "truck coating" under there before I added the sliders.

I've also added some gussets and outriggers since those pics.

2 times it was WAY easy saws all and a grinder

now what im thinking about is taking it a step further and cutting the doors where i have this black line. Below the line I would weld up solid, and above the door would be like a normal door. Then the whole lower part could be either protected with some tubing or plated with some heavier steel to act as a slider. ideas? questions? concerns?
