Come back when you are discerning enough to understand what we expect of modern day Land Cruisers.

Here's another testament of the new "Land Cruiser" that you think is a gift to us. From someone with no horse in the race:

Legit pic! Bonus for posting puking pregnant wife!

What defines a real Land Cruiser? (legit question)
If you drive one, you know. The definition is rather loose and probably influenced by what model(s) one owns. To me, a Real LandCruiser is overbuilt, rugged, simple, dependable, owner serviceable and beautiful. Real LandCruisers are known for their axle and driveshaft size, not their infotainment screen size. Real LandCruisers come with a handcrank to start the engine should the battery die. Real Landcruisers are more manual than automatic. Real LandCruisers respond very favorably to even the slightest attention, thrive on jury-rigging and always get you home. Real LandCruisers either have, or develop, a "Soul" or personality. They hear what you say (never talk about selling one within earshot) and aim to please. They often become part of the family. They are surprisingly capable and awe-inspiring when off-road and make you look like a better driver than you really are. At one time, LandCruisers were legendary. If you think your LandCruiser is legendary, it just might be Real.

Talk about perfect timing and context.

Any vehicle Toyota blesses with the name 'Land Cruiser' in it is a Land Cruiser even if it has a hybrid battery. In fact, in the original Jurassic Park book (before the movie), the park tour vehicles were fully Electric Land Cruisers. It's a shame they swapped them out in the movie. What happened to 'spare no expense'? The Land Cruiser's weight would’ve been perfect for showing just how powerful that T. Rex really was.

I love the part about NEVER talk about selling within earshot. When things get sketchy, I always tell mine about how great the next oil change will be...

OK, they're all Land Cruisers. I was (still am) trying to define the difference between Land Cruisers and Real LandCruisers. I think that the Real LandCruisers were designed from the ground up as the flagship of the Toyota line, not assembled with parts on-hand and blessed with the name to fill a spot on the family tree.

I usually tell mine "I know we are in the middle of nowhere, and I wheeled you for 8 hours, but I promise to give you a new head gasket when I get home. Please don't strand me."

Fair point! If it's built by the same hands, with the same materials and using the same Japanese philosophy, and designed from the start as a Land Cruiser, it's a Land Cruiser. Some had a limitless budget, some didn’t, but that never robbed them of their honed focus and reverence for what they had to work with to create what Toyota itself defines as a 'Real' Land Cruiser.

And as for the idea that some were "assembled with parts on-hand," well... the very first Land Cruiser the Toyota BJ was built using proven parts from Toyota’s existing trucks. Yet it wasn’t slappedd together it was calculated, intentional, and built to endure. That reflects Mottainai a Japanese philosophy of minimizing waste and Kaizen, the art of continuous improvement In that spirit reusing trusted parts isn’t cutting corners it’s tradition. It’s a way of refining, improving, and creating something stronger than before.

built to endure.
Built to endure? Absolutely. How many old LandCruisers get pulled out of a field after sitting for 10 years and, with just a few necessary part replacements, start right up? The 40/55 tech forum is full of them. My LandCruiser is 51 years old, I rebuilt the engine 20 years ago. Did a valve job last year. How many modren Landcruisers can do that? I guess we'll have to wait to find out.
I am not convinced that Toyota is building today's Landcruisers with the same philosophy as 50 years ago, nor do I always believe the official Toyota line on what makes a Real LandCruiser as their criteria may be different than mine.

More pigheaded than Pighead? That's hard to believe. Pighead has more practice.
Pighead certainly has experience and eloquent speech on his side. The amateurs resort to larger fonts and bold styling when they don't get the attention they crave so much. Luckily, permanent removal of that trash is only a few mouse clicks away!

Not to mention the clear use of AI by the troll. I wonder when the mods will intervene.

Secretly, I enjoy these threads. Following along to see which is first to be (deservedly) sent to Chit-Chat.
Is like a slap-fight in the sand box to determine, once and for all, which Landcruiser model is NOT the worst ever. No offense...

I'm rather surprised how long this thread has remained here. Mods must be on vacation!
