Its a $57000 truck in 2025 compared to a truck that cost $90000 10 years ago. Its not really comparable.
I disagree. This is touted as the TOYOTA LAND CRUISER, and not the TLC PRADO (caps aren't yelling at you). If they stated they were introducing the new for America TLCP, then I would agree with you. Instead, they bamboozled and hoodwinked the public. Now we get to listen to people saying their LC is the same as our and just newer. I don't really care what other people think, but it shows the bait and switch which was used regarding the name plate.

If nothing else, when was the last time you read either bamboozled or hoodwinked?

Thats not a landcruiser

😅

people dont cross shop 8 year old cars with new cars
In this niche market I can't be the only one that would cross shop these. Probably in the 0.5% though. Plus if I'm buying a 200 it better be a sexy 16+.
Then again I like my $1500 LR3 just as much as my hundy, so I'm sure I'm in a substantial minority.

I think it is very wise to cross shop for a 200 series as you get so much more, especially if you like to keep a vehicle for 10+ years instead of trading in every 3 to 4 years.
Same reason when I bought my 2020 F250 new I went with a gas job 7.3. The 6.7 is a fantastic engine, but I hope to keep this truck 20 years. Nothing is simpler to upkeep than a pushrod n/a v8.

The Godzilla also has no cylinder deactivation that tends to chew cams in Ram and Chevy. A modern classic for sure.

It is also, without a doubt, a more reliable vehicle than a 200. Longevity seems equivalent, perhaps even better.
Comparing the reliability of a T4R to a 200? Of course the 4 Runner is reliable. But without a doubt more reliable and better? No way man. The 200 was engineered with a minimum 25 year service life in mind. Comparing a T4R to a 200 is apples to oranges. They both have their issues. But at the end of the day, there’s a reason the Land Cruiser exists.

Ford (lol) has been “eco-boosting” (turbo'ing) their truck platforms even longer? Toyota hybrid tech, even longer?

edit: too long
Ford lol? My 8 yr old ecoboost has almost 200k miles on it. Been damn near flawless. Thousands of miles off pavement in some very remote places. It’s never missed a beat. Or left us stranded.

except, maybe, the straight 6 that came in a pre-smog real LandCruiser?

Those fat gals usually do the same things as the hotties without the drama and expense… a lot like your 08 with halogens vs the 16+. No one can tell the difference if the lights are off and you aren’t wincing while taking on pinstripes while I might.
It is ok no need to make me feel better

All the ballers are putting $1300 headlights on their 08s..while I live my life one BBW halogen at a time

Let’s not forget the 250 tops out closer to $78k.
It’s important to compare the base prices of these trucks because that is the measure of quality, not the added on tech features that inflate price (and lower the long term reliability).. so when comparing base prices and accounting for inflation, the 250 can never be what a 200 is the way it’s been developed.

Do tell, what is your actual metric for “capability”? Are we talking row capacity and ergonomic family hauling or trail/off-road capability?

If the latter, can you share with me a trails or obstacles the 200 bests the 250 on?

I love the 200, I was en early adopter and we’ve proven what an amazing chassis it is through our race endeavors imo. But to call it more “capable” is misleading under most off-road premise standards imo. There are plenty of things to dislike about the 250 when comparing to the 200, off-road capability isn’t one of them. Durability, longevity, simplicity (relative), sure, but capability, meh.

Why not race the LC 250 (not the Lexus) in the Dakar instead of the 600?

Who is racing the 600 in Dakar? We've raced the LX600 in the SCORE Baja 1000 the last 3 years but I'm not familiar with an LX600 doing the Dakar.

Talks of a 250/550 racing the Baja 1000 is no secret. However stock clas rule changes are damning to new competitors in the stock-mid and stock-full classes thanks to race org $ponsor$ like blue oval company.

I'm sorry. I thought you guys participated in it with that LX600 build.

Ah. I guess we'll see happens, eh?

So, if you get bumped in the rear corner, the computer immobilizes the vehicle.

The Land Cruiser got him there, but won't be getting him home after a bonk to the rear end, apparently.

EDIT: Coupled with the post above, I don't think this vehicle would come close to being tough or reliable enough to finish a race like Baja.

Unless rule changes happen, a 250/550 or a new 200/570/300/600 build can't/won't compete in SCORE races. The new ruled are perfectly tailored to Ranger, Raptor and Bronco offerings.

Reinforcement of things like frame, body, radiator, diff, engine and shock mounts, etc is extremely common in the stock classes. For example the core support and inner fenders of the Canguro 200/570 have had many of these repairs & reinforcements along the way as damage is found.
