Marley was picked up out in the country at a well known dog dumping site. She was in bad health and was tattooed with feces and urine and had udders hanging to the ground. We put through an intense medical regime and had her in a couple fosters, but despite taking her to several adoption events didn't get any interest

We are on a permanent wait list for Old Friends. They have a terrific facility for senior dogs with hundreds of volunteers who love on them constantly. Most people who tour the facility comment that they'd live there if they had the chance.

When one of their dogs passes and it's our turn, we nominate a senior dog for them and this time, Marley won.

"We'll have the bub's food, we were here first!"

And I thought Sassy was spoiled 😍 but she eats in the garage 😂
They were just being hopeful. They got nothing and promptly thrown back outside. They are still in need of a bath, but it's too cold (hence one with a coat on) to do that at the moment.

They were both stoked yesterday when we had a morning thunderstorm come through as that meant they could come inside to be near the fire!

Pupdate...my Newfie is 17 weeks old tomorrow and a whopping 49.8lbs! He just got his "AKC STAR Puppy" Certificate and already in his next manners/obedience class, as we work towards his CGC and then CGCA. Also getting him in the water to start the water dog/rescue titles as well.

After our Atlas passed last year, it took us a while to get another pup then realized Bruno needed a friend. This is Titan and Bruno. Took about a week for Bruno to accept him, they are syncing up very well.

@NicksFJ40 sync’ed up? Man that is like simultaneous orgasm…funny!

We were at the same point. I did not want to get another dog. We are older now but our depressed golden retriever has been sleeping 14-16 hours a day for the last few months. I caved and we got another dog. It’s been 2 weeks and our golden has come back to life. She has become actively involved with the new pup and the new pup is a dream to have here. She adapts to everything within minutes. Her tail never stops swinging. She sleeps on the side of the bed and is HOUSEBROKEN! I have not seen Ruby play like this in almost 8 months.

Another thing our big guy likes is the Theragun. We use it on his hips and lower back. He totally stretches out and rolls over with a low moan.

There is more to having to put a dog down than just the loss of a pet, (yes, family member) as I’m discovering. We had our local vet come to the house yesterday and put down our 13 year old Walker Hound who could no longer stand.
As bad as that was, how it has affected our other dogs (rescue shelter dogs) is possibly more sad. Their behavior has changed dramatically since yesterday. They are extremely nervous and avoid the area where the hound had previously laid. I can only hope it’s temporary. ☹️

Probably one of the hardest things to have to do.
In our house there not just pets there part of the family and are treated like one of our kids.

Sorry for your loss!!

It sucks, but the other 2 dogs are fairly young, so hopefully it will be a long time before I have to do it again.

That is a very hard event to manage, sorry for the loss of your loved family member. Our dog was so upset of the loss of her friend, after 7 months, we had to get another dog to keep her company. She was physically depressed. At this stage I was set for no more dogs… they could outlive me…well, that plan turned out poorly
