The engine will lug/choke/buck (feels like it's bogging down/hesitates) for a few seconds and then it clears up and runs fine. It happens around ~2500 rpm The problem comes and goes.

Any ideas....?

This is a common problem with 2F & 3F engines. Check the fuel filter &/or fuel pump. At higher RPM the clogged fuel filter will produce what u are experiencing. A fuel pump that is old (say 40,000miles) will do the same.

Do u smell gas fumes? Leaking pump; buy new one.

my 85 did the same, i swapped out the fuel filter and drove it 2000 miles and it started again. finally i replaced the fuel filter and the pump and threw and extra filter in the center councel just in case. problem free for 10000 miles.
